Peace on earth, good will to men, live long and prosper, no new gun bans, and stop referring to revolvers as pistols.
Time for my annual post on the subject. I know it disturbs some people but I'm gonna try again anyway.
How about we do what the firearms industry does and stop referring to revolvers as pistols.
Go to the web site of almost any firearms manufacturer and look at their listings for pistols and revolvers. Notice how they have the models listed under seperate headings? i.e pistol heading and revolver heading?
Yes, there are many old definitions that interchange both (just like clip versus magazine). Yes I know early Colt advertising interchanged the terms (H&K advertising featured a magazine with bullets loaded backwards but that doesn't make it proper). But in the firearms industry and among firearms experts a pistol is a handgun with a chamber integral to the barrel. A revolver is a handgun with chambers in a cylinder.
Isn't "handgun" sufficient for a generic term? You would never call your 1911 or Glock pistol a revolver so why call your revolver a pistol? I know it will be hard to change, but try. You'll sound more professional when you do.
EDIT: I know many of you use the terms correctly and this post isn't meant for you. And even if you continue to use the terms wrong I'll still continue to like you as a fellow firearms enthusiast
It's just one of those fingernails on the black board things...
