    why derth of long-slide 6" 1911s?

Only Springfield seems to have a production model (good luck finding one, much less for sale) as Para seems to have dropped theirs.

Rock Island has one but it looks all funny, and not in a good way.

To me, a long slide makes more sense (for that "platform") than all the shorties everyone is making.

Well, since the .45ACP was developed alongside the 1911, you'd think they would have optimized the barrel length.

    I've shot a 6" 1911 and didn't care for the recoil characteristics

Les Baer makes a few but it would have to be done SSE. I have a SA Loaded with some custom work done and love it.

SA, Baer, Fusion, Ed Brown, Caspian, Nighthawk, Wilson, STI, Used AMTs, RIA...there are enough out there if you really want one (or three).

Para makes the super hawg, I got mine about a year ago, im not sure if they're still made. Also try to find a springfield V16 longslide, my personal favorite.

I love my springfield longslide. Fun to shoot and accurate.

what about a 6" barrel on a standard size frame, less weight and slide mass to contend with...

Weight is not a bad thing in a bulls-eye gun...

To me a longslide doesn't make sense in .45 auto. I prefer and own a longslide in 10MM; which makes more sense in the foot pounds of energy catagory.

The 10MM has more energy at 100 yards than a .45 auto has at the muzzle.

Longslides aren't about ballistics; they're about longer sight radius and more weight at the muzzle end of the gun to reduce muzzle flip.

Personaly I use compensated pin guns when I want both those advantages.
