    1911 Isn't ejecting spent casing

My 1911 is not ejecting the spent casing. I have cleaned and lubed it a few times and my best guess is somehow the extractor got damaged? I have removed and cleaned the extractor twice, as well as scrubbed the inside of the slide opposite the extractor. I'm attaching a couple pics of a stuck casing. Your expertise is much appreciated.

I couldn't get any pics closer up, phone wont focus.

From first glance it doesn't appear to be a problem with the extractor, since it is pulling the casing from the chamber. Is the ejector broken, or missing? It doesn't appear to be kicking the case out and off of the extractor.

I would check your tension on the extractor, may have too much tension.

I did some more research, and you were right. The ejector is missing. Huh, I wonder when that happened.

          Thanks for the help guys!

My ejector came loose too once (didn't fall out though!). Should be a quick fix hopefully. What make/model? Hopefully they take care of you and pay for shipping on their dime...

The ejector may not have been properly staked at the factory.

I might be wrong, but your rear sight looks to be non-adjustable combat sights, and they are drifted to the right side.

Its a Springfield, not new I've had it for a while, nobody's fault but my own. I must have miss placed the ejector when I cleaned it . The sights are fine, its just the angle of the picture that make them look off.

Ejectors aren't suppposed to be removeable without tools on 1911's. They are normally pinned through the frame. Springfield Armory Loctites them in place on some models and they occasionally come loose; hence the reason for the educated guess by 9mmepiphany that you had a Springfield.

The good news is Springfield Armory has generally excellent customer service and lifetime warrantys. I would suggest calling them, explaining that your ejector has vanished and request they email a shipping label to you and further that they pin the new ejector in place properly instead of using Loctite due to your inconvenience.

"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

They are very good about doing it too...and their turnaround time is very quick.

I speculate that they have done a study and weighed the cost of postage and repair against the time saved by skipping that step in production and found the savings to be substantial.

While it is pretty common knowledge of how it should be installed, you don't hear widespread complaints about it.
