      ^LoL, ammo will not chamber.

I would go with the 10mm, and at that price Glock has the market cornered at that price.

G20/G29; Gen3, I like the 29sf better, because it has the dual-spring and you do not lose that much on the sight radius (barrel is not that much shorter).
Gen4, the 20 gets the dual spring, but I hear there is not much difference in the full size.
The new texture might be worth it for the extra cost.

New to the sport?...I highly recommend with a lower pressure caliber .22lr/9mm.
10mm (nor the .357SIG) is not a good starter/training caliber, IMO.

good luck, and welcome to CG's.

Hell you could get a sig sp2022 with a .357sig barrel.
Stupid cheap with Cash to splurge on ammo.
        Or get a sig p226 in .357sig

Make sure she can comfortably work the slide, load the mag before dropping the cash. For a first timer a 10mm, .40, .357 pistol slide can be hard to manipulate. My personal preference is .40 but for my wife, she felt comfortable learning with a .22 and then a .380. Now with some experience she is able to manipulate the .40

I've taught a lot of females to shoot and one thing I've seen frequently is a lack of grip strength to work the slide and load the magazine. The solution is typically a smaller caliber (often .22lr to start) and in some cases they even feel more comfortable with a .38 revolver.

Try the rental counter before dropping money. I can't recommend any 10mm/ .357 for first time female shooter. The money you save on ammo, practicing with a 22lr, will pay for the new pistol when your ready.

Right i agree, she grew up shooting 9mm and 22's with her father so shes not totally new to handguns. i just dont like the trigger or thick grip on M9's. my hands are almost too small to manipulate the safety with my firing hand so she wouldnt be able to at all.

ive been looking at the Ruger SR40 but havent gotten hands on time. anyone own one?

I have a SR9C. It's a great gun. The .40 should be the same frame dimensions. The Ruger has some great features: ambi safety, adjustable sights, pinky mag base plate, and flat ones, nice trigger, reversable back strap. Ant the best $400 price. The full size ones are pretty nice too.

You do know that the .357 Sig is basically a 9mm projectile, on a necked-down .40 S&W cartridge, yes?

If so, then I recommend the XD-357 Sig. I love mine. I initially got the XD-40, but later sent the gun to Springfield for a .357 Sig match barrel install and fitting. I couldn't be happier. The Sig round is a little snappier than a 9mm, but not even close to the feedback that a .40 S&W will give you. Perfect for a little lady. You can find it for about $500.

Are you in San Diego? If so, you are more than welcome to shoot mine and test-drive it.

The .357 Sig is an interesting cartridge. I remember a while ago hearing that out of all the handguns tested (the basic, common calibers), the .357 Sig was the only one to reliably shoot through car doors, which led to the assumption that the projectile would, in fact, reach the occupant(s) of the vehicle. The combination of a small projectile with lots of force behind it made it unique in a number of ways, just like the 9x25 Dillon.

                      From Left to Right: (1) 10mm (2) 9x25 Dillon (3) .40 S&W (4) .357 Sig (5) 9mm.

Please take no offense but if its for your wife, do your preferences (stated above) really matter? If its really for her, take her to a range and rent some handguns. Then let her choose what she likes and wants.. This way you'll save yourself some grief and some money....

Have you looked at the RIA 1911's? People seem to love them.

This is a very valid point haha, im just excited. her... not so much. she doesnt think we need a handgun but with as crazy as people are i dont like not having a gun in the house. she likes the idea of going shooting but not actually buying one haha.

You'll have a hard time finding a more user friendly and durable sidearm than the Springfield XD
