There's nothing like first hand experience, especially when compared with opinions. It should be easy enough to rent both of these pistols at a local range. Shoot a hundred rounds through each of them and then make an informed decision rather than relying on the opinions of others who may or may not have actually fired these guns. JMO

Oh, and for the sake of full disclosure, what I'm suggesting here is what I did when faced with the same choice...except that I also shot an SA XD before finally buying a FS M&P 9mm.

I have no need to rent a gun to see how it fires. I have shot plenty of 9mm pistols and know what the recoil is. I can hold a gun in my hands and see if i will like it or not. I am asking opinions from people who have had experiences with them, issues, reliability etc... Im not a fan of the XD, there is way to much unnecessary material on the slide. Really big and bulky.

My vote goes to the M&P (with Apex trigger): you avoid the possibility of the dreaded and very annoying "Case to Forehead" (AKA, BTF) ejection. It's luck of the draw kind of thing but if you get it you will likely regret getting the Glock. There's nothing more annoying than hot brass dinging you in the forehead and eyepro.

Just because the gun feels fine at the store doesn't mean you know how it acts in the range. I owned a Walther P99 that I thought fit like a glove, however, I really didn't like how it handled in the range. Something was just off about it for me (my girlfriend shot fine with it). On the contrary, I think Glocks don't feel quite as good as many other guns I handle, but I shoot them just about the best when it comes to semis. Same experience with about a dozen revolver grips I've tried over the years.

As far as your original question, I've always tossed around Glock vs M&P but I still have my Glock simply because I shoot it well and parts are abundant + takes no more than 15 minutes to make just about any modification to it. It helps even more that the combination of NY1 spring and (-) connector makes the Glock trigger like a light and short DA revolver. Only issue I've ever had with the Glocks I've owned was brass landing on my head shooting my G34. All was fixed when I swapped out the extractor.

I would know how that feels, my G19 Gen3 had the same erratic ejection issue. I fixed the issue myself by updating the ejector(8$) and extractor(18$). Shot it thursday, works great now, ejects clear and far.
                        I agree, very nice.

Fix was 30274 ejector? What extractor? Same as stock but new? It different style extractor?

don't mean to sound like a dick, but help yourself and go rent/shoot both and decide which you like better. they're both reliable, decent pistols, but only YOU will know what feels right. i've found i just don't like striker-fired pistols so i don't like either of them, but everyone is different. if you don't like either of them, look at a ruger p95, or a cz75, or a usp, or a....see where this is going? there's no recipe for success if it doesn't fit you. some people can pick up any gun and shoot it well, some, it require some feeling out.

Honestly, if I had the money I would get both. But I don't so I would probably get the Glock. I'm looking at getting a Glock anyway. I have heard great things about them and they seem to be pretty simple and reliable which I like a lot.
