    Surprised by XD

Me and my dad took our new handguns (P226 and CZ75b) to an indoor range for the first time, we had a blast!

I am looking for my first concealed carry gun, and was aiming for a P239 or M&P40c. after we finished shooting we were looking at some guns behind the counter and the employee there let us handle them and was really friendly and helpful. The Glock 23/27 felt horrible to me, the finger grooves didnt fit my fingers at all, the M&P40c was okay, but I instantly fell in love with the XD, it felt so good in my hand, better than my P226, I was absolutely blown away, I never thought much of the XD's. going to rent an XD next time we go, and most likely will be one of my first carry guns, super excited. Anyone have info about the XD .40 Subcompact?

Not about the XD40SC specifically (I have an XD9), but Powder River Precision makes really great aftermarket parts for the XD and XD(m) lines. I have their drop-in trigger kit in my XD (except I didn't swap out the factory striker spring) after running the gun completely stock for several years, and it's like an entirely different gun - though for a carry gun, you may not want to lighten the pull too much. I've also read comments on some forums about the striker retainer roll pin breaking after too much (A LOT) dry firing, but PRP also sells a 3-pack of replacement pins.

I read somewhere that the XD was supposed to be a polymer version of a 1911. As in they purposely weighted the slide and muzzle to have a "1911-like balance".

        Also, the grip safety.

I have the XD .40 subcompact and I love it. I can shoot accurately with it better than any other handgun i've fired. The recoil on the .40 subcompact is really manageable as well. You'll love it.

Not sure about the sc but my buddies got xd40 tac. Shootsike a dream and IMO wayyyy better feel than a glock and aims easier for me anyways.
He always says if a glock and a 1911 had a baby it would be an XD. Hahah
I just like xd's better as a polymer pistol.

I had an XD9SC and sold it after one range trip. Hated the weight, recoil and bulkiness.

The XD is a nice gun, very broad aftermarket support. My wife has two of them and she loves them.

Personally I'm a CZ fan and have many variations of the standard 75b, including a compact .40 for carry. It's a nice gun but it's a bit of a chunk.

I just acquired a Ruger SR40c and I believe it'll become my new warm weather carry piece. Very light, very compact, and easy to shoot. Ruger put some kind of special sauce in them that soaks up recoil... joking, but it sure seems that way! This gun is a surprisingly easy shooter. Handle one if you can and see if it fits your hand. I was surprised... I did not think it would fit me but SURPRISE - just like hand in glove.

                    Second the trigger kit.

I have 3 XDs, a 9 Tactical, and .45 service and tactical. I like them because they fit my hands well and seem to point naturally for me. I shoot them better than my 1911s or Glock 19, so I end up shooting them most. I guess I have gotten use to the idiosyncrasies of the XD so the trigger is not an issue. I did change the sights on the tacticals to Tru Glo.

I would not say I am a fan of XD but it is what I shoot best. I am a fan of 1911s but don't shoot them as well.

As stated, kind of chunky and some slightly better options for ccw.
But don't get me wrong the XD sub is a viable option .
Wait a little bit for the S&W Shield40 and test that, I am sure there will be more suggestions/options.

Top heavy & higher bore access, is suppose to contribute to more recoil and flip, but I find it the opposite compared to comparable polymers.
Maybe because of the chunkiness, dunno.

I do have a sub & service XD in 40...they have been excellent .

I hate the grip safety. Unlike a well tuned 1911, it's small and if it breaks, the trigger and the slide become inoperable. The bore axis feels really high. Both the Glock and the M&P have a low bore axis and shoot much better.

The Glock and the M&P have both been vetted and adopted by law enforcement agencies across the US while the XD generally has not.

There's far more to owning and carrying a handgun than initial feel of the frame. How does it handle recoil? Is it reasonably accurate? Can you manipulate the controls well? Is it reliable? Is it durable?

I like XD and ive shot them and owned them since theyve come out but for carry, I would look into LC9, XDS, M&P Sheild....but them again it depends on how you dress...

The hi bore axis stuff is not important to me. I can point, aim and shoot and hit targets much quicker with a XD vs MnP and Glock. Not because I'm good but because I trained with the XD. Same will apply to those who train with their weapon of choice. The most important is is it reliable, for me at least.

Plus, they put the bullets in the grip and the dangerous end goes away from you. Lots of similarities.
