    Question regarding serial re-engraving.

    Hello-
I have a pistol that has both the model number and serial number laser engraved onto the frame. They are both 100% legible; however, I prefer having this information engraved so its not just flat.

I carry my guns while in legal carry states and in the event that its ever used in a defensive situation I don't want the laser etching to at all be worn or faint. Does re-engraving an already legible serial need to go through BATF? If its too much trouble, I'll leave it alone but if its as easy a taking it to an engraver then I wouldn't mind.

    Thanks in advance!

As long as the number does not change, and what remains on the frame afterward is the same there is no issue.

I've had this done before after polishing certain parts where the serial number is not very deep in the metal and had the letters re-done.
