      I bought mine about 6 months to a year ago or less and I paid $800 for it! It was an even better steal than the OP. I'll never get rid of it.

        Find an original set of grips for it and you've got a keeper. 1000 is a good price in CA.

          Usually blued Pythons came with checkerred wood grips with gold Colt logos, although that changed in the mid-90's. Rubber grips were usually seen on Stainless Pythons but some people liked the feel and retro-fitted their blued Pythons with them. The fact that you have both grips is a strong indicator that your wood grips (if checkerred, no finger grooves, and with gold Colt logos) are the original ones.

              really wish it had the stock grips on it what style would be original to an 81 is there a certain frame type to look for when I find some

                  If you're looking for grips to shoot with, some Hogue fancy grips are great looking and functional, and they change the grip angle to a better feel in my opinion. The plastic grips aren't that great feeling personally, and the factory checkered feel awful again, but they are collectible.
