    Phoenix Arms HP22A

My wife has been asking me to get her a Phoenix Arms HP22A. Does anyone here have one, or has experience with one that can comment on the quality of this little handgun?
    Thanks!

    Wow!
Should I take the lack of response as no one owns it because its a crappy handgun?

probably because no one owns it. If she is looking for a .22, go with a SIG or ruger I say *shrugs*

I've had one for years. Had to replace the mag release twice so far...all in all, I'm happy with it for plinking. If it's a good price, I'd go for it.
          Yeah.

          I'm pissed.

what are you going to use the handgun for? plinking, target, pocket... i was thinking of getting one of those a few years back, just as a small pocket pistol until i found a taurus pt25 for sale. i liked the double action better than the single action on the hp22. for plinking or target, i think for a little more money, you could get a ruger 22.

I bought one for my wife as an entry level handgun. The rear sight barely has enough adjustment to compensate for rounds landing WAY out in left field. No malfunctions or breakage. Have a Walther P22 that is both comfortable and accepts accessories. The Walther was only 70 bucks more and if I had to do it over, I would pass on the Phoenix. kuttle muttle sells some cool accessories for p22s on the big fat auction site. He is in Germany so some of his correspondence is...well....in German, but he also lists in English.

Oh yeah, my hand tends to creep over the tail (just slightly) on the Phoenix and if I'm not careful the slide will give me a scrape on it's way back.

I had a HP25 that I gave away. I got it as an inexpensive pocket pistol, but if I ever needed it in a pinch I think it would have been more of a liability than an asset.

A waste of money, in my opinion. If you want a pocket pistol get a Beretta, if you want a target pistol get the Ruger.

We just purchased it over at Royal Loan in San Diego. They have one left, its $135. My wife wanted it, and that one only because her brother used to have one and she loved shooting it. It will be a for fun practice handgun. She doesn't like my P229 too much, grrrrrrrr.....
In any case, I know that the company is out of business. Are parts for it a problem or should we take extra care of it so we wont need parts?

                        Hi Satex,

I am a newbie from Oklahoma (formerly from California), so I don't know all the California rules, but I hear the 5 inch barrel has been approved in CA. I myself bought one (the Range Kit) with 5 in barrel. I gotta tell you, I outshot my son and his HiPower Browning last weekend everything from 15 yd clear out to 35 yd. For me, the sights are right-on!! True, I had 3 mis-feeds (out of about 200 rounds), but just rack-em and shoot! All 22 semis I have ever shot will misfeed once in a while, I think it's just the nature of the beast.

I love my little HP-22, I think your wife will like it too!

Today I called the company and ordered the 3 in barrel and an extra clip. They were very helpful and friendly.

I think it's a little one-way to consider if a gun isn't made in New England, then it's no good. California and Ohio make their share of good weapons too. Besides, with a lifetime guarantee, how can you go wrong?

I didnt know the 5" was ever banned in CA. Its a non threaded barrel so I don't understand why it would be a problem.
Aside, wasn't the company closed? Don't know how one would use the warranty.
The pistol is working out great. My wife loves it and it shoots pretty well. It is pretty nasty to clean and I hate taking the barrel with that funny spring off. But thats the price one pays for making the wife happy!

I love my HP-22 I paid 100 bucks and it came with the 3" and 5" barrels. It also came with 2 mags, the extended finger groove on one mag is really comfortable. I do not like the multi safties that are on the gun, for that reason alone I would not use this one for secondary self defense. I do love to shoot this gun though. Wheelgunner and I went through 200 or so rounds without a hickup, the last time I gave it a good work out. I have shot it since but only a mag or two at a time. 2 years no misfires. I cant say that about my P-22.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I had read that the 5" version was approved by CA but that the 3" barrel was not (for some reason) in tests run by the state last August. I may have misunderstood the article though

Regarding the company: as of 8:15 am (Pacific time) this morning, they were still open for business, because I called them and ordered spare parts. I asked the lady who answered and she said "Yes, lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, just make sure you send in your warranty card within 30 days to validate the warranty." I think you should keep a copy for your own records, just in case.

I knew your wife would like the gun! Wish I could get my wife interested, would buy another for her without hesitation.
