    RIA 1911?

Why are these rock island armory 1911s so cheap? Looking to add a 1911 to the collection primary use being only for range. They go for 400-550? Does anyone know more about these brands? Any known problems? Looking forward to getting the railed one.

That is a SA railed TRP not an RIA (first pic)...so add $1300 bucks to your $450-550 and you are good to go.

some people consider guns made out of country to be lesser quality.

some people think that if you pay under 600 for a gun, it must be worthless

some people only have experience with their 300.00 GI models which are pretty loose guns.

        some people are stupid.

        I have 4 RIA's. a SA loaded longslide and a kimber 10mm

SOME of the GI's (300 to 400) are rattle traps, loosely built guns built to loose specs

the tactical versions have some nice upgrades and shoot great. (400 to 600)

the match versions are semi custom hand fitted guns that in my experience run flawless. (600 to 800)

the finish on RIA's is usually pretty crappy, whether parked, blued, chromed, or whatever, and they have those atrocious roll marks.

the fit on the higher versions is GREAT, my tactical and match are just as well fitted as my late model SA long slide and kimber.

however, the kimber and to a lesser degree the SA the FINISH blows away the RIA.

in conclusion, if your looking for a good shooter and like shooting an underdog, go with RIA tactical or match, and you wont kick yourself if you scratch it, drop it, idiot mark it, or anything else.

if you want a pretty gun that shoots straight, go with the SA, Kimber, or colt models. i think my black stainless kimber is the nicest looking gun i own hands down.

the SA black stainless, regular stainless and parked models are all eye candy also.

the RIA is a good shooter. all ive done with my tactical is to upgrade the sights to fiber optics, which along with some hand fitting is what makes a match model.

Nothing wrong with RIA's ... I don't own any but I'm familiar with them.. This wise men told me RIA is same as colt ... RIA bought the gun machine from them ... Just put a new recoil spring that's all I know ..

He is not that wise, because he is spreading wrong information.

They are decent guns for the money however, so that part is true at least.

Nothing wrong with a RIA 1911s. They are the best value for the buck.
When you pay more than $500 for a 1911, you are paying for brand recognition, hand fitted parts, high quality material, like forged frame, and tool steel internal, and other stuff.
It is the Kia of 1911.

That colt machine is a myth and is not true. RIA now has a factory in pahrump, Nevada. Great gun! I have a RIA tactical and its shoot great. They have lifetime warranties in the pistol itself so if you were to sell or buy used, it follows the pistol not the owner. Their customer service is outstanding! Even through email they usually respond within the hour or so. Great people, great company, and an awesome firearm.

Why do the RI's need a new recoil spring? I have a new one in the safe I'm planning to shoot in the morning. Thanks.

They're excellent guns and made to shoot. They may not be the prettiest, but I never understood the type of man who collected guns like they collect Barbies playing dress up and what not.

I was happy with my RIA.
