    HK USP questions

I own a bunch of sigs, glocks, berretas, and 1911's in different calibers but never have owned a HK product. I haven't had the chance to shoot a USP but they seem like a nice pistol and I plan on picking one up at the end of the year. I was wondering which caliber you would recommend? I'm well aware of the differences in different calibers so I'm not trying to start a ballistics debate. This is going to be shooter and I'm not planning on carrying it. I'm leaning toward the .45 unless someone recommends the 9mm. Thanks.

I’ve only shot .40 & .45 but I like my USP just fine.

My only advice would be to shoot both a 9mm and .45.

Where u located OP? Maybe another calgunner will let you try theirs

I didn't like it. It just didn't feel right in my hand. You might want to try and borrow or rent one first.

I'm in Sacramento. I've tried to rent them before but unfortunately no ranges carry then near me.

HK USP's are excellent weapons and surprisingly accurate.

Per your criteria, 9mm gets my vote.

If you don't mind the drive to Vacaville, Center Mass has them available for rent. I shot the USP 9MM and it was pretty sweet..

USP 45. First gun I bought. Love it. I live in Folsom, but no range plans soon.

Obviously, you might want to grab and shoot one before you commit to picking one up. I thought I wanted a full-sized USP until I picked one up. Love the ergos and how it shot, but it was too big for my hands. I went down a size and grabbed the USPc. Same ergos, same accuracy in my hands, but better grip feel.

As far as caliber, if it's just going to be a range piece, go with 9mm unless you reload.

I vote for the .45. Doesn't sound like you are going to have trouble affording ammo.

I completely forgot about center mass. Thanks for the heads up.

I've had a few since they first came out in 1994---to tell you how I feel about my USPs, USPc, P30S, P2000 etc would require a full page---lets just say HKs are addicting. You seem interested in the USP---I have both 9mm and 45 ACP---I would start with the nine because ammo is so much less. Softest shooting centerfire pistol---super accurate and reliable. The 45 is all that but a touch larger---for some reason, my 45 USP just never seems to miss---you gotta like that! I have larger hands so the grip is not a issue for me. If you have smaller hands, I would tend to consider the USPc or P2000.
You've been warned; HKs are addicting.

Definitely rent one first. I was obsessed with the USP so I went to an indoor range and rented it, the .45. I'm glad I did because it just doesn't feel right in my hand. It a bit too big for me, I couldn't even reach the slide release comfortably. Awesome weapon, very accurate. Who knows? Maybe I'll still get one later on.

I am in your area and have this, let me know.

USP 45 compact - The fullsize was way too big for my hand. I like the controls on the USP almost the same as a 1911 and I can carry condition 1.
