    New cartridge: 6.5x25 CBJ (a necked-down 9mm)

    Spiffy.

^^^ all the info on development, bullet options, ballistics including trajectory, guns made for it, etc... 2,950+ FPS

The 6.5x25 CBJ Ball is the standard cartridge with a tungsten projectile enclosed in a discarding plastic sabot. It is not to be considered as a special armor piercing cartridge, but as an all-round military ball cartridge with very good penetration capability.

It offers high penetration and wounding effect even at long range, and is effective against all targets normally engaged with small arms fire. This includes light skinned ground vehicles, helicopters etc. at closer range, as well as personnel with high levels of protection at distances of up to 300m+.

The low friction of the bullet against the bore among other factors gives high endurance for prolonged firing without overheating the weapon.

A very important feature of the discarding sabot, is that it does not disintegrate. It stays intact after leaving the projectile and follows its path and drops to the ground at 20-25 meters from the muzzle. A typical spread pattern of the sabot at 10 meters range is within a 0,2m radius of the projectile's trajectory.

From a design viewpoint, pretty interesting.

From a shooter viewpoint, this ammo will be expensive, difficult to find and difficult to reload, I wouldn't buy it. Ammo is already getting ridiculously expensive in normal calibers. A new specialty round will just cost that much more and be that much more difficult to find in stock.

                3000 fps!? im in.

Much better than 5.7, especially for reloaders since its a necked down 9mm. If only they used a more common bullet...

edit: i didnt read the article, but how is it possible that they neck down a 9mm (9x19) to 6.5x25? Does the brass really stretch 6 mm? more like 7 or 8 to compensate for the bottleneck?

i hope this isnt going to be an expensive proprietary round that you have to buy new brass for

The old broom handle and CZ52 use the 7.62x 25
It is effectively 9mm bottle necked to 7.62.
(You can buy 9mm barrels for the CZ 52 and all you need to change is the barrel.)

The round is quick 1400+ fps in shooting plates at the range, the 7.62x 25 will not knock over steel silouttes that a 9mm will knock over.

I guess dropping the bullet weight and diameter is not going to be a "Game Changer"

Here is I do on the 100 year old round
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Us escapees will have to pickup one of those guns chambered in that caliber eventually. I am always interested in new calibers.

If you have any 9mm, it sounds like all you would need is a new barrel. Magazines, recoil springs, etc all remain the same since the cartridge is 9mm brass (so breech face, extractor, mags, etc are all perfect for it already) and the total energy of it is on the high end of 9mm territory as well. So.... a new barrel and that's it.

Look at the case length compared to a 9x19, not going to forming your own brass.
