Sig P226 thumbs forward

Finally got the gun I've been dreaming about forever and i could use some knowledge/advice. I use a thumbs forward grip but if I put my thumb over the slide release like I do on my 1911, it doesn't lock back on the last round. I'm assuming this is a common problem.

What do ya do with your thumbs? Just hold them below them both below the release and latch ? Or is it possible to hold your thumbs over them?

I shot many Sigs and never a problem. I shoot 'kind of' thumb up so i can get more of my palm web on the back strap of the gun. I have large hands but i have a hard time hitting the slide release with my thumb when my trigger finger is the right position.

Don't change the gun. It's training you need.

Odd, I've been shooting my SIG with my thumbs forward for years...never had a problem pressing on the slide stop lever, but then I learned the grip on a SIG

I recently switched to thumbs forward and had the same problem with my 229 Scorpion.
Drove me nuts at first. Couldn't figure it out.

I never had issues with my thumbs, you guys have a way different grip than I do. My left hand is on the bottom of my right not on the side so my thumb is out of the way. I never have a problem using the slide release with my right thumb.

This gun was custom made for my hands, sorry guys they couldn't make it fit everyone.

I should clarify, there is nothing wrong with Sig or their controls, they just don't fit my style of shooting. I solidified my grip using a 1911 and Buckmark. Trained for years on them. Hand goes in, thumb wraps over the safety switching it off and pulling the hand higher up the grip. Switch the 1911 safety with a Sig slide release in the same location and I'm screwed. It feels unnatural and odd to me. If I shot lefty this would not be an issue.

Certain guns aren't going to work for certain people,as we all have different sized hands and thumbs.I shot a W. German P226 and never had a problem with the slide lock lever ,yet a Sig Pro failed to lock back for me.Different strokes for diffeent folks.
