Im looking to upgrade my RIA gi sights to some heinie straight 8 ledges with night sight. Anyone have any thoughts on it? it would cost me around 250 without shipping. Coal creek armory says they would charge me 100 for the work to mill the slide. so sights are 150 on heinies sight + the labor to install.

I have them in my 1911. They are pricey though.
I have 10-8 as well, almost identical, which may save you some $. -
I have the Ledge on my Baer & really dig them! Although, mine aren't the night sights, just blacked out. Great sight picture and very functional, A real upgrade from the knock-off Novaks. My only word of advice is to determine if investing $250 + on a $400 pistol is the right move for you.WTB: S&W 617 4" 10 shot Pre-LockComment

good thoughts guys. lol To be honest i put in some other money in it already. Put in a new grip safety because i was getting some hammer bite along with a new hammer since the spur doesnt work with the new beaver tail. As of right now i probably put another 150 something in to the gun. I put in a new sear with the hammer and a new sear spring. gun runs alot smoother.
Just wanted to see peoples thoughts on the heinies. Dont see them around as often as novaks (im assuming because novaks come stock on most factory guns now) If i Got the blacked out straight 8's it would cost half as much. The blacked out sights are 75 bucks i think. Thanks for the input guys. Im definitely in love with the 1911 platform...
Also...... is it possible to only own just 1 1911? I had a glock 19.... sold it after i got my ppq. Never had a real it for polymer after that (maybe the PPS) But the 1911... theres just something about it. Is that normal?Last edited by boonyah; 11-19-2012, 6:56 AM.Comment

I find Heinies have a better sight picture than Novaks. Also the straight 8s are easier to pick up due to stacking the two dots on top of each other, if you use the three dot night sights like on the Novaks, I would recommend a different color tritium front sight to differentiate which is which in the dark. At pitch black, it can be difficult to determine which is the front and which is the rear on 3 dot sights if all are the same color. Of course, ymmv.Comment

Thanks black majik! I totally agree with you about the 3 dots. I have read forum posts about people lining up all three dots but the front dot was on the far left and they were shooting way off their mark. I also like the heinie straight 8 ledge because you can use those sights to hook on to something to rack the gun 1 handed if need be.Comment
