Groupings

I also hear people mention groupings; such as "2-3 inches with 115 gr this or that ammo, etc. but they never mention how far back they are? Is 7 yards a standard? 10?

And, what is considered a 'grouping.' 6 shots or so? I see people posting pictures with 5-6 shots normally.

I was shooting 10 round groups measuring right about 2" yesterday from 7 yards pretty consitently. This was using junk 115grn ammo. I was very happy with that.

For a service Auto pistol w/ range reloads?

~ 2"/10 yds.

YDS:
7 = 1.5"
10 = 2"
25 = 5"


For Target/revolver?

~ 1"/10 yds.

YDS:
7 = clover-leaf
10 = 1"
25 = 2.5"


Better is better, worse is unacceptable.

Either 5-shot groups or 10-shot w/ called fliers.

Not sure what bullet weight has to do with group size. 90gr to 147gr bullets shoot the same within 25yards IMO. They do feel a little different while shooting but they all move forward and make round holes in things.

group size measurement needs the distance as qualifier and how the gun was held (offhand, sandbag, machine rest, 1-handed-offhand etc). 2" group offhand at 7 yards says nothing about anything as far as I'm concerned. I'm especially bothered when people show a target full of holes, circle 3 rounds and tell you that's the group.

when i shoot for groups, i sandbag mine at 25 yards and slow fire multiple 5-shot groups at small targets.
