It is very hard to answer your question. Guns are very specific. It is like asking use to pick a girl for you, or maybe your dream car. Every guys have their specific taste.
Your best bet, is go to the range and try them all out.
Here are some good starter; 1911, Sig 226 &220, HK USP, CZ 75, Glock
Most gun owners fell under these groups.
Pay attention to frame material, Steel, aluminum, and polymer. Also caliber, 9mm, .40sw, and .45., Plus control, Single Action, Double Action, Decock, Trigger safty.
    Good Luck.

On the day after Thanksgiving, go to the Chabot range. Bring something to barbeque and hearing and eye protection. You'll get a chance to figure out what kind of gun you want to buy.

can you recomend a good gun for a new shooter?

        thanks
FIRST if you want to buy a handgun, get a feel for what you shoot best.

One way to do this is to buy a membership at a gun range that lets you use its guns.

Try both kinds: revolvers and semi-autos.

Figure out what feels best in your hand and also what you shoot the best.

Take some shooting lessons before you make up your mind.

Learn which eye is dominant, how to sight in, basic trigger control, etc.

After you have done all this, then you can make an informed decision about buying a handgun.

But at this point, you are several steps away from knowing how to choose.

My first gun was a Ruger SR-22P - great starter pistol at 22lr (cheap and fun to shoot and to hone skills). I also rented a few guns (Glock, Sig, HK) before settling in on a Sig P229. One more week to before it breaks out of jail!

            1. First to own a Handgun in California you have to have an HSC Card. A short test at an FFL (Gun Store) and $25 then you can legally own or buy a handgun.

            2. New shooters should buy a .22 pistol (cheap fun and a good way to learn gun safety and handling)

Consider a Ruger or Buckmark as your first weapon.

Get you handgun licences for $25-30 bucks then go get yourself a cz 75, done.

A 9mm will let you fire a bigger round at a fair price. Good for hd/ccw too. A 22 is fun for the range tho.

Or you can do the whole ring around the handgun dance, I don't like second guessing perchases, especially when it comes to handgun.

I also don't like brass to the face. So cz..done.
Lol! WTF is a "handgun license"? In CA you need a HSC card to purchase a handgun but, it is not a license of any kind. In fact, you don't need a HSC card or anything else to own a handgun in CA.

look on YouTube. I prefer glock, ruger, and Hk

Do some research first and find some good deals.
