How Much Frame Wear is This?

I got this thing used with an unknown round count and have only put about 500 through it myself. About how many rounds would you say this thing has seen?

    Thanks in advance.

Steel frame? Aluminum? What are we looking at here? ...any burrs or roughness on the bottom of the slide rails that might cause wear like this to be accelerated?...

6906 so it's an aluminum frame. I don't have it in front of me so I'm not sure if it has burrs but I don't think so. I'll have to check once I get home.

It looks kinda weird, almost like galling instead of back and forth slide wear.....like no lubrication. I can't imagine a slide doing that...how does the slide look?

500 rounds of dry shooting might do that. I would run a dab of grease on that rail. JMO

Definitely, I've been running it with Shooter's Choice and a good amount of Rem gun oil every time. The only reason it was dry in the photos was because I was cleaning it. It had these marks when I bought it, but I didn't think too much of it.

Use some golddot grease. It's thick and tacky and won't run with heat from fireing multiple rounds.

Not that much ware that I would worry, especially if it functions properly.

It's an older gun, so you can't ever tell how many rounds went through it before you. I seen "only 500 rounds" on so many gun sales. I wonder what the statistics are on the truth of the matter. 100 = 500 , 500=2500, 1000=5000

What is it they say about men and women talking about their prior boyfriends and girlfriends?

Something about taking a woman's number and multiplying by 3 for the real one and dividing a man's by 5?

Hopefully it won't get too much worse. I love the gun and keep it as my go-to.

Can I have it re-anodized so that it's like new?

Yes. You can also have some aftermarket finishes applied if you like (NP3, hard chrome, cerakote, etc.).

If I had the frame re-anodized and the slide bead blasted, would the gun look as it did from the factory? No nicks, cuts, dimples, or anything? Does it need to be an FFL that does it?

Does the pistol shoot accurately and reliably?

Is there a reason you're concerned with round count? Aluminum frame rails often wear the finish off a bit but it really doesn't seem to cause any issues. Looser slide to frame fit has only a very small effect on accuracy. Some of the marks on the top of your rail look like maching marks to me.

In regard to refinishing, yes they need an FFL unless you are with the pistol at all times is my understanding. They typically bead blast the pistol and refinish which gives a matte appearance; usualy deep dings and scratches will still be there unless you pay extra to have them address those issues.

Nothing wrong with some honest wear, post a picture of the entire pistol

It's hard to see the wear in those photos but it's there. Nothing I'd worry about on its own, but if I was gonna get the pistol rebuilt, I'd want everything perfect.

                        Just to wear down again.

I am glad someone wants to "rebuild" their 6906. They are wonderful little S&W's. Mine is too far gone for that..

Let us know how it turns out if/when you get around to making it look new again.
