    Rumored SIG P227 double-stack .45

There's a rumor that SIG will be unveiling a double-stack .45 at SHOT Show. It's said to be dimensionally similar to a P226, accepts existing 220 slides, and uses 10 rd flush-fit mags or 14 rd extended mags.

One of the things I love about my 220 is that the single-stack profile allows me to conceal it better than my Glock 19. I think I'll wait and see what special editions come out for the P227 before I consider buying (assuming this rumor turns out to be real).

So the guy from the show White Collar had the inside scoop on the P227

They might show it at SHOT, but I'll believe that they are planning on making it only after the P224 is actually more then vaporware...

        And it's in .45GAP.

I wonder how it differs from the prototype 221?

Alloy frame or polymer? Either way, hopefully they redesigned the slide for .45. Add a light rail and if it's as accurate as the P220, it could be an interesting gun.

They could definitely manage it in alloy. Detonics did a double stack alloy frame for their modular 1911.

I bet they use the current 220 slide....I guess they eject/extract properly now after several design tweaks with the external extractors?

I had heard the opposite, that the gun still has ejection problems, though it's better now. But that wasn't really what I was referring to. Here's a link to a post by a Sig LEA Armorer who outlines the problems with the P220. http://m4carbine.net/showpost.php?p=...1&postcount=10

He's not the first to outline these problems. Every pistol is designed in one caliber. If you're going to offer the gun in a different caliber, changes have to be made to accommodate that caliber. For instance look at the slide on the Glock 17 and the Glock 21. The 21 slide is much larger. And even when Glock tried to answer the call for a .45 in a 9mm sized handgun, which is the 45 GAP guns, they still had to increase the dimensions of the slide. There's a reason for that. So when I say redesign, what I mean is I hope Sig addressed/rectified the problems or flaws the 220 has when they designed the 227 and don't just release a P220 with increased capacity. Because quite honestly if they do, IMHO, they're just releasing a gun that is less durable than an HK or USP 45 for the same amount of money.

The only thing that comes to mind is the rail but other then that, I'm curious as well...

The P220 is by far the best service 45 made. I will buy at least 2 or 3 227's if they go into production. Any report of massive failures of the 220 in not realistic. I have 2 of them with more than 10K plus through them. Never had a failure ever!!!!
