Finally got to shoot my Glock 9 x 25 x 10 Dillon; awesome cartridge! Its' built on a new Glock 20 10mm(full size). Got $550.00 in the new Glock, $125.00 in the Lone Wolf 5 1/4" SS ported barrel, $85.00 in the Springco recoil spring assembly (forget the stock Glock plastic unit) and $125.00 in Dillon dedicated carbide reloading dies. What a gas. Totally mild recoil (the Glock 20 has a huge recoil absorbing grip frame), minimal muzzle jump, huge (6" umbrella shaped) orange/blue muzzle flash and rifle like report. Easy to make ammo (loaded ammo available at DoubleTap) from 10mm brass. Just run 10mm brass through the Dillon dies and load. Using cheap Rainer plated 125gr. flat nose bullets (Lone Wolf barrel is also lead non-jacketed bullet friendly) and CCI magnum primers over Hodgden H110. Getting 1500 f.p.s. +; blows through 4" phone book and 3/4" plywood backer and still had enough oomph to lightly crater a 1/2" mild steel plate at a 45 degree angle to bullet trajectory (DoubleTap ammo goes 2100 f.p.s. with 90 grain bullet). Been trying to figure out how to build one of these zingers for a couple of years. Checked with Springfield Armory on building one on a 1911 pattern pistol; their ballpark of $3000.00 cooled that idea off in a hurry. Couldn't find any 1911 barrel makers that were interested either to cobble one together on my own on a 1911 pistol (that's what the original 9 x 25 cartridge was chambered in). The Glock/Lone Wolf/Springco/Dillon combination brought the pistol in well under $1000.00 with reloading dies. This is lots more fun than a Desert Eagle 50AE or .500 Smith & Wesson (got both) and a lot cheaper to shoot. It also doesn't require chiropractic adjustment after a stint at the range (that .500 Smith can be brutal!). What's it good for? It would probably be dynamite on small game (can't wait to execute some milk jugs and bowling pins too). Penetration wouldn't be an issue on game, or lack thereof. This smokes a .357 Magnum and has 10 rounds to boot. All the components were drop-in and I mean drop-in. No gunsmith required (lucky because I'm definitely not a gunsmith). The stock Glock magazines work great with the 9 x 25 Dillon cartridges and you can drop the stock Glock 10mm barrel back in the slide in less than a minute. By the way, the Lone Wolf barrel is a beautiful piece of machine work. Try it, you'll like it!

Thanks! you are brave!
Got a glock 29 myself, so happy to see this report. They have the barrels for the 29 as well. How was the recoil compared to the 10mm? Snappier?
Must admit that I was totally surprised at the mild recoil of the 10mm after hearing all the internet gossip.
Haven't shot any full house stuff, only mid 530 fe muzzle stuff.
Have you posted this over at glocktalk. There would be some interest there.Comment

I've only had the 29 a few weeks, but being a glock, it's very easy to transition from my other glocks.
Here's an OK target I shot a few days ago.
Only 7 yards, though, and most shots touching, around thirteen rounds.
Two handed unsupported, slow fire, mixed 10mm ammo.
Even out to 20 yards I'm getting around 4 inch groups pretty easily.

Nice range report Trago, almost surprised to see any mention of the 9x25 Dillon as most peeps have never even heard of it. One of my favorite cartridges and has been for almost 20 years. This one is 1989 vintage by Terry Tussey. The other barrels are 10mm and a 9mm hybrid that I was playing with about 15 years ago. The 9x25 is a great flat shooting coyote buster and just drop in the 10mm and it does a fine job on deer. I taken both with this one. The barrel came from Brilley in Texas but I'm sure Irv out at Barsto Barrels could also supply whatever.

Been thinkin about doin another one on a longslide 6"barrel and seeing what kind of velocity we can get.

Hi Riodog, Really like your 1911; that's what I originally wanted to build but couldn't find anybody to build one on my limited budget. When I got really active researching the 9 x 25 on the Internet and contacted the barrel makers (for a 1911 build) they seemed worried that I would develop severe tendon/joint damage; lose my hearing and have a gun that went KaBoom!. The common thread at the barrel makers I talked to was "Yeah, we know what it is but why do you want one?" I'd say something like "Just cause it seems loud and cool and out there" and they would say "Well, we don't do that 9 x 25 Dillon, nobody shoots those anymore and you'll shoot your eye out". That was the end of the discussion. Glad to see you got one when they weren't paranoid about building them (barrels and or pistols). The availability of barrels from Lone Wolf and dies from Dillon may make it a more appealing option for some of the more adventurous shooters (as long as they are o.k. with a Glock). It sure is fun to shoot!Comment

Get the G20... you won't be sorry! I used to have a G31, and was traded in after my first range session with the 10mm. I figured I only needed one odd-ball cartridge in an autoloader, and the 10mm was it. Shoots .40 with a $100 barrel swap too!

Guys you have me sorta of baffled here.??? Tendon damage, hearing loss, Kaboom??? I honestly don't know where this stuff comes from. This is a mild cartridge compared to say your 500. The "muzzle flash and louder bang" can be toned down with different powder choices. I don't usually post my reload info as I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone's mishap but about 14 to 16 g's of said mentioned powder behind a Nosler 110g hollow point will really stop a dog in it's tracks. Maybe I'm just not too recoil sensitive but then some find the 10mm abusive also. I load it hot as a hunting round and when I find a load that does what I want it to I sorta stay with that one load.
$3000. OUCH!! If you still want a 1911 start with the least expensive frame and slide you can find and go from there. The internal parts can be bought separately and they aren't that costly. Sights are all over the ball park so you can go with whatever your budget can stand at the time. They can always be changed later. The barrel and bushing can be ordered over the internet and I'd advise an oversized item and let a good gunsmith fit it for you. The rest is cosmetics and can be done at your leasure. I usually go with stainless just because I have the where-with-all to either totally polish out any booboo's and make it look like a pimp gun or just brush it back to normal. (Oh my, I said "pimp"->prolly get 10 minus points for that..
) Should be way less than a thousand bucks.
Deaf, huh, say gin, after at least 25,000 rounds of 44 mag over the last 40 years HUH is my favorite word. Believe me when I say always use ear and eye protection. Had to go for a secondary opinion before I got signed off on my flight medical last time around...
Back to the 9x25. It might be a handful in a commander or warthog sized pistol. I do not know as I've never shot one that small. This was developed as a target round way back when and the object was velocity and accuracy. At the time I was really into it and Terry Tussey also did my other 2 guns to match. A 38 super and a 45.
For just grabbing a pistol in case I'm somewhere to shoot It's either the 9x25 or a Para with a couple of mags of swc and a mag of snakeshells.
Glad you found a neat cartridge. I like oddball out-of-the-ordinary also.
