Is this possible?

I would like to have the bottom half of a 26 with the top half of a 19C.

I like the idea of a little more mass in the slide for reliability and the compensator appeals to me.

Any drawback to a compensator for carry?

Yes, there are drawbacks. The porting will completely blind you while firing at night. Also, if the gun is fired from your hip or during a struggle close to your body, you will be injured by the gas coming out of the porting.

Why do you need compensation on a 9? It is a 9!!!

Here's how to do it!

I already had the 2nd generation 19, but wanted a 26. Liked my 19 too much to get another so, did the next best thing.
Cut the grip frame down to take 26 mags. Now I have the best of both worlds. A subcompact for carry, and the longer barrel for balance, sight and velocity.


If you don't want to do this mod yourself, there are a few places that will chop it down for around 75.00, not including shipping.

The other option is lonewolfs longer slide and barrel for the 26, but then beside the cost of the original 26, you would have to pay another 250.00 for the slide and barrel.

ARS will do the job for you either with grip reduction or without it. You have to send your gun soon so they can have it by March 3rd so they can do the job right away. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for June 2nd for the next time they'll do the batch job.

Go with the lone wolf, they're products are great. For some unknown reason I cringe inside when people hack up perfectly good glock frames.

if you want the porting, try some subsonic ammo or ammo with low flash propellant. with the right ammunition, the porting will not blind you. if you use straight ball ammo, it will. dont let this detract you. i would stay away from hacking at the frame though.

Thanks to all of you I got some good info. I'm planning on going ahead with a 19C and getting the grip reduced and chopped to 26 mag length. The amount of work I get done and by whom will depend on available finances at the time. I shot a 19 with the New York 8 lb. trigger today and it was not to my liking. I have small hands and the grip reduction sounds good. Has anybody used the sights that are like a yellow pyramid with a red ball that you line up at the top? How about the Laser Max internal drop in unit?

I see that you were thinking exactly what I was a few months ago. I found that compensators are a no-no for cc. Some situations requires a very close-to-body firing position where a comp might blow a fireball in your face, either blinding you or worse. Also, it's really unnecessary for the light-recoiling 9mm. Here's a short vid of somebody I dislike displaying some decent training skills and you can imagine why a comp would potentially be bad in when the first shots are fired:

I have no experience with any frame mods although was seriously tempted to chop my G19. I even purchased the right dremel wheel, appropriate grit sandpaper, G26 mag and pencil traced the cutting outline from a friends G26 onto my g19. I decided to get a G26 instead and found out that I shoot it just as well as the G19. It is clearly not as comfortable to hold because my pinky finger is hanging off the bottom. Strangely, after having shot both side by side the less comfortable G26 has not affected my speed or accuracy during slow fire or double taps. The only exception to this is when shooting out to 35 yards and beyond.

As an experiment, I purchased the concealable control mag baseplate which does not in any way affect the size of the magazine. It is not a pinky finger extension but an extended magazine baseplate so just gives your ring finger extra purchase. It's more comfortable to fire when using it but it also has not affected my speed or accuracy. When CCWing, it might help you with drawing your weapon bc it gives your ring finger a "hook" to grab when you draw (per posters on glocktalk).

All in all, shoot both and you might find like I did that there is no difference in practical performance. The only useful difference between the two as far as I can tell is the G19's rail. For that one reason, I choose the G19 as my bedside gun.

I haven't done it yet, but if you just purchase AG sleeves, they fit right over the glock 19 mags and fit to the bottom of the 26 type grip frame.

That was one reason I opted for this over buying another 26. Because with the longer 19 mag and the AG sleeve, you have the 19 frame size again.
If you did that on a 26 it would look funny having the grip so long with such a short barrel! IMHO

I shot a 19 with the New York 8 lb. trigger today and it was not to my liking.

My newly acquired 1st generation glock 17 came with a 8# connector and feels around 9 pounds trigger pull! Ordered a lighter connector as it's mostly a range gun. But my 19 and 29 have the stock 5# and they feel great.
