    S&W M&P9c broken striker

The striker broke on my week old M&P9c yesterday. I already called Smith and they are sending me a new one no questions asked. The gun had about 200 rounds of FMJ. I dry fired it about 200 times to wear it in and get used to the gun. Apparently this is a somewhat common problem. They also tend to break at the neck down at the front. I'm not too happy with the failure but am so far very happy with Smith's customer service.

Here is a 8 page thread on this issue on another forum

On another note I love the macro feature on my Canon A720is!

Sorry to hear that man, I wonder if the DF might have caused it.I like the M&P but I was a bit leary of quality, I'm glad I waited.

It happens...but maybe S&W need to fix that problem by changing the material.

I'm sure dry firing it didn't help. But it shouldn't matter. Smith even says that dry fire isn't (shouldn't) be a problem.

I'm not sure what the material and heat treat on the material is. There are some machine marks and the rough machining might be what the problem was. I am also a bit concerned about the wear on the side of the striker as seen in the bottom pic. That is from rubbing the cut out in the slide. The striker rides in a plastic sleeve so it shouldn't be rubbing.

I believe this is a problem with earlier production guns, and some changes to striker material happened afterward. This is the kinda issue S&W would be all over.

I'm thinking this won't be a problem again for you.

I continue to dry-fire my M&P45 to break in the trigger a bit.

I don't think mine is an early production gun. The serial is MPW6xxx. I'm very curious to see if there are any visible differences between the new striker (will see when it gets here) and the old. Obviously material or heat treat most likely won't show up visibly.

The 2ng gen [strikers] have been around since about half way through the MPBXXXX's.

If I had a hand shaped to hold 2x4 I might have bought one.

The grip on a glock will grow on you after you buy one. Mine sure has!

I have shot many. They don't grow on me. In fact just the opposite. I have short fingers and thick hands. I can't reach a single control on a glock (including the trigger on 45's). The XD was about the first double stack I found acceptable (I have an XD40). The ambi mag release allows me to drop the mag with my middle finger. Glock was and never will never be an option unless they drastically change the grip size.

I got my new striker last week. It doesn't appear to be any different then my last one so pictures of it will do no good. Hopefully this one lasts much much longer then the last one.
