Hmm... I currently own one G17 Gen 3 and had an older G17 Gen 3 before, that I sold (stupid move made due to bad economy). Haven't shot through that many rounds in the new one yet, but I've certainly shot the old one quite a bit without failures of any kind... In my experience, Glock just runs...

Is this a "fix" from APEX for a problem that doesn't exist? Or am I just lucky I haven't had an extractor problem that is more prevalent now?

The problem is real for a some Glock owners made 2010 and up so it exists. I experienced it, the thread starter experienced it, and hundreds others from other forums that I've witnessed. I've owned 9 Glocks since 1998, 2 Gen 4 9mm's purchased this year currently including one that use to kick brass at my eye until I participated in Apex's prototype testing with 10 other people who included firearm instructors Tim Lau of 10-8 Performance and Wayne Dobbs Aimpoint's LE trainer. This is a well documented problem that many industry professionals have been vocal about. Just because YOU have not experienced it does not mean it does not exist.

I forgot to mention that the problem does not always occur right away and may develop after 1,000+ rounds.

          Perfect example:

Half way through getting my footage for this video, it happened. I started to get BTF.

I demonstrate the ejection of WWB, Speer Lawman 115gr FMJ, and Ranger T-Series 127gr +p+. Each of them ejected just fine for me previously, but by the time I switched camera angles, they all started to shoot brass into my face.

As I show you, this BTF doesn't matter what ammo is being used, and it doesn't matter how you hold the pistol. There is definitely something that has shifted with how this pistol is engaging and ejecting brass, though I can't see anything wrong with the extractor that looks like abnormal wear.

This seems to match the new experience mentioned by others here, where you get great ejection from brand new Gen 4 9mms for a while only to have it end up in your face after 800 rounds or so.

Check it out and see for yourself.

ETA: Here are the companion videos. The slow motion comparison was quite revealing.

Thank you for educating me on a problem that has not revealed itself to ME. I don't plan on spending the extra money to buy a SSE Gen 4 since the Gen 3 has served me well and hope that again will shield me from this extractor issue. If this problem also exist with Gen 3s, then so be it... I will deal with it when it happens and hopefully APEX does not raise that $59.95 price tag too much when it does happen...

No need to get all worked up when someone questions the usefulness and legitimacy of any information posted on the web. Notice I also said "Or am I just lucky I haven't had an extractor problem that is more prevalent now?"... I guess in this case, I will answer my own question, I am just lucky I haven't had an extractor problem that is more prevalent now.

            TGIF...

I'm not worked up, but it gets irritating explaining something over and over a quick Google search could have answered.

Don't get irritated... you corrected my ignorance on this subject which was not known to me (which is why I wouldn't google search it even after reading APEX's page).

Ive had this problem with my recent build low round count Gen 3 26 and 19. Cant wait for Apex to come out with the FRE for the Gen 3's. Pklin - the current extractor was originally meant for both gen 3's and 4s but was apparently not 100% in Gen 3's after initial release. Apex has been extremely receptive to customer input and hopefully it wont be long for the new items to come out.

I apologize, but there's been a few individuals that have claimed a conspiracy regarding Glock's Extraction issue and Apex creating a fix and it got out of hand on a few forums.

Good thing I bought replacement parts, including an extractor from I think 2004 or whenever the Gen 3s came out. Hope I won't have to use it.

Call me naive, but I don't put much stock in conspiracy theories... If this happens to me, I'll deal with it using my old extractor and go shoot some more. If it doesn't happen, I'll go shoot some more. Either way, I get to shoot some more and I'm happy about that.

I did notice...and that isn't the part that grates. It was the tone of the portion the preceded it:

The problem is widespread enough to have it's own acronym: BTF (Brass To Face)
