City Arms has this in the used display case.
Chinese or Japanese characters engraved on the slide.
Anyone have info on this?

that's Chinese, stated the maker's name or logo and handmade

I don't know if it's a shop's signature or not but the characters mean "Made by Flag Bearer".

+1. I googled the Chinese name and could not find anything related to gunsmith. Could be Japanese gunsmith also.

It's weird; the build is old school with the BoMar rear sight and the front strap stippling, but nothing else was changed - main spring housing, hammer, stuff like that. And the frame is a relatively recent US made National Match.. very odd.

I usually try to keep my cam w/ me for those moments where you had wished you had a camera.

My wife is fluent in Chinese writing and said what neomentat, erliban, and subin all noted. Chinese & Japanese share a lot of characters.

a little history for those who care about such things:

some 30 years ago just about 75% of Japanese is Chinese (Kanji) meaning Chinese Character. But then the nationalistic conservative law makers of Japan wanted to develop their own written language and came up with 2 new forms of written language (forgot the names, it's been a few years since my Japanese history class) so now the Chinese character only constitute roughly 50% of the Japanese written language. However, over the years certain characters developed new meaning in Japan and is used differently in Japanese than in Chinese. And the Communist Chinese government has developed a "simplified" version of the Chinese characters while Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan still uses the traditional Chinese characters.

on a side note, the Japanese and Korean royal bloodline and emperors of the past are all Mongolians and this was known among the Japanese scholars dating back to WWII era. Archeology evidence from the Japanese and Korean emperor's tombs proved this beyond a doubt. I can post details on this subject if anyone is interested.
