Modding SIG P229 EE

Hi so I went and ordered the Sig p229 enhanced elite, its almost my dream gun. The new grips and beavertail feel great but Sig has gone and made a beautiful piece incredibly ugly with the addition of the loaded chamber indicator and accompanying text etched onto the slide. I think from what I have read on here it is legal to remove the LCI, but just wanted to make sure. What gunsmith would you all recommend for this and removing the text, I guess that means bead blasting and refinishing? I am in the bay area. Thanks for your help!

Yes it's legal to remove.

It would probably be cheaper to just buy a new top end then it would be to modify the slide you have. The slide is a single piece of stainless, so what were you planning on putting in the slot that the LCI sits in?

Sig calls new top slides "caliber x-change kits" and they go on sale for $250 from time to time.

You might want to remove the mag disconnect also.

Thanks for the advice, I was kicking myself a bit for not refusing the transfer and going the SSE route due to the LCI. But I just ordered the .40 exchange. Since it is a newer model 229 from what I understand the 9mm and the .40/.357 use the exact same lower and shouldn't have any issues going back and forth? And all I would need is a .357 barrel on top of the exchange kit to shoot .357 right? Reliability issues? Thanks guys.

Yes, you can use all 3 top ends on your gun with no issues.

Be aware that the mag followers are different in the 9mm mags then in the 40/.357 mags, so if you change calibers you need new magazines too...

As far as removing the mag disconnect, give gray guns a call and they can tell you. I think it's just an extra part on the locking insert.

Mag disconnect Sigs are rare enough right now that there isn't a good how to video on YouTube yet.

I'll be getting a Sig Sauer P229 40 Elite Legacy Caliber Exchange Kit from shop.sigsauerguns.com who are clearancing them out for $249 and will stack another 10% off on their BF sale. Spoke to John and was kind enough to test fit it on a Enhanced Elite in their store so it's a confirmed fit. As far as the mag disconnect safety I was able to find a detail strip vid on youtube and removed it myself. Plus it's a Sig Elite slide which is engraved on the slide. Then you could use the LCI'd slide as a range slide. I called Sig Sauer which they didn't recommend removing it but also said mechanically removing it had no affect on the gun with function in any way.
