    Looking at a 1911 45ACP.. need recommendations

Hi Folks. I am saving up to purchase a 1911 .45ACP. I am leaning towards a Kimber and spending about $1500 -$1600 on it, however due to conversations I have had with several people and some online research, I am a bit hesitant due to what seems to be a lack of quality.

Some people have recommended a Les Baer, yet those seem out of my price range. Others had recommend an Ed something, or even Dan Wessons. I am not a fan of Sig's, and am curious about RIA especially since I will have plenty of $$$ left over.

While a newbie in this sport, this gun would be something i keep and one day pass off to my son along with my Winchester 30-30. All other guns will come and go, but not these two, so what do you recommened and why.

    Thanks in advance!

Dan Wesson. For 1600+/- you can't go wrong with one. For a little more you can get a solid Les Baer and I would but for the price you posted I would go DW over any other.

NTW, DW's don't have all that garbage billboarded on the slide.

hmmm, I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about Kimber... I have huge hands... and the evil man at Turners let me hold a Kimber 1911 last week when I was there to jail a AR....best fit of a 1911 I've had so far... but dang, I will have to look into that... Springfield makes a beautiful 1911... I have not held one yet so I can't testify about comfort...but looks and reputation I love Springfield...also I owned an xd-9...wonderful gun

I have 2 Kimbers and a Sig. I have had no problems with any of them. One of the Kimbers ( the cheapest one) is 10 years old and used in all day combat handgun courses and has always performed flawlessly.

Good Luck with your decision and congratulations!

For that amount go with SA TRP or Dan Wesson.

Have you shot many 1911's? Find a range that rents them and go shoot a few.

A Kimber TLE II or a Springfield Loaded will run you just over $1k and then you'd have plenty left over for ammo, gear, small safe, etc...

RIA Tactical's are good to go also!

I've got a Kimber CDP and a Dan Wesson Cbob, both have run flawlessly and are fun to shoot!

I recently picked up a Kimber Ultra Carry II and love it. I haven't put many rounds through it yet but the ones I have went through flawlessly. Fit and finish of the gun are solid. Based on my gun I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kimber.

Kimber Custom II is a fine gun. RIA 1911s are not bad, but if you have the $$, use it wisely on one that has the goodies you want. Buying a lower priced gun and upgrading the parts to match a more expensive gun usually doesn't end well.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

A Les Baer will be around $1750 shipped pre tax/DROS/transfer. That's with a 1.5" guarantee. It will actually have match grade parts and hand fitting. It will be made completely in the USA (if that matters to you).

As I've said before, Dan Wesson and Les Baer rule the < $2000 price range.

I would say Colt, or Rock Island. Or both.
But the best suggestion is rent some and try them. And then just get what you want. Anything wrong generally can be fixed.
And any one that you take care of will last a long time.

I own a Dan Wesson PM7 and would recommend it. They are hard to find and probably over $1,400.00 by now.
A Springfiel Armory Loaded in SS is $955.00 plus tax and fees at OC Indoor Range (OCIR) in Brea, CA. The TRP Operator is a step up, but the Loaded is still a great gun.
The Rock Island Armory (RIA) tactical is $550.00 at OCIR. It is Parkerized, not blued, and made on Phillippines. Range guys cannot say enough good things about it and every review I see on it is great.
                              Good luck.
