    M&P .45 Mods

Finally got my M&P .45 set up the way I want it... this is my primary HD gun (bedside) - so it's about function, not so much aesthetics.

I think there is a thread somewhere about M&Ps but I couldn't find it, so I figured I post this.

Shaved the thumb safety on right and installed Crimson Trace laser grips, removed mag disconnect, mounted Insight WX150 weapon light and had Tijicon Night Sights installed.

The thumb safety mod was easy, and when I re-installed the first time, I don't remember it being difficult - but last night after removing the mag disconnect, installing the thumb safety was a PITA!

Most people use a 1911 mag release spring or order from Speed Shooter Specialties to fill the space and add tension when removing the mag disconnect spring, I didn't want to order and wait... I also read somewhere to use a #1 spring from Ace hardware (whatever the hell a #1 spring is) - I looked at Home Depot and they had nothing... I used a cheap, simple, plentiful household item - a bic click pen spring. Cut in half plus about a mm and it works fine.

I realize some people don't prefer thumb safety - yes I realize "trigger finger is safety" and "brain is safety"... blah, blah... I prefer thumb safety (to each our own)...

BTW, I always read/heard the Crimson Trace grips were about the size of S&W Medium back-strap... I think that's referring to medium on a .40 or 9mm, the grips on the .45 are bigger (of course) and the small is perfect for me, medium is okay, but not ideal... fortunately the CT grips are about between small and medium .45 (very comfortable for my average size hand).

So it's not overly complicated or difficult, but the outcome is exactly what I want in a HD pistol. And I haven't really seen any with this configuration of mods - so I thought I'd share

Everyone like pics (but mine are crappy - sorry):

Here is the mag disconnect spring - this is the other half of the bic pen spring (I trimmed a little more on the half I used):

dang, I just realized something else I intended to do... at some point, I plan to reverse the mag release to use trigger finger or right middle finger (I'm accustom to right middle finger with my USP).

So I guess it's not finally the way I want it - yet

Very nice! Yours is setup almost exactly like mine including the safety. I just chose a TLR-1 light and had a 4.5lb trigger job done. It's become my bedside handgun and first choice for emergencies.

        ^^^ right-on, an M&P brother

I ended up reversing the mag release... with the USP it's natural to use right middle finger - but on the M&P I'm so accustom to using thumb, it seems a bit odd so far... but it does keep on target much better.

Speaking of M&P brother... I just picked up a little bro from my .45 tonight
