    SA 9mm XD or XDm?

    Hello,

I recently shot a rented 9mm XD at the range and was quite impressed with it. So now looking to buy one. When I looked up Springfield Armory's website, I see that they also have a XDm (though it looks like it's not CA-listed).

After some research, found that there are some shops that SSE this gun and we can get it that way.

Thing is, the XDm is about $200 more than the XD of the same caliber/barrel length. They seem to have many features (at least those that I care about) in common.

So my question is to those who have used both; is it worth it to get the XDm?

    Thanks.

I've owned both and other than the cosmetics, they felt the same to me. Both were accurate and reliable. Great guns, you can't go wrong either way.

I don't think it's worth the extra money for an xdm although from an aesthetic aspect, I prefer the xdm.

I have an XDm, but only because I wanted the competition model..

It feels so nice in my hand and so well balanced..

But, in general there's not a TON of difference between the XD and the XDm.. sorta like a Gen 3 and a Gen 4 Glock.

I really appreciate the comments. I think I will just go for the XD then. And it's CA legal, so less troublesome to get.

        Thanks for the quick responses!

I also have a XDm that I got used from another member, not sure if you are dead set on buying new but I got it with PRP trigger and a tungsten guide rod for less than a new XD costs.

I really really like it, I have also shot the regular XD (actually a friend of mine picked up his XD the same day I got my XDm so I shot both back to back) and everyone is right in saying there isnt a huge difference. For me the look of it was 50%, 25% for the performance, and 25% for having something I am not able to get here.

            SMR510,
Yeah, I agree that the XDm looks better (as least from what I can see from pictures). And if the XDm was more widely available here in CA, I'd definitely get it!

My research on the XDm tells me that there are no 10-rnd magazine for it. And that I'd have to get a hi-cap (how would I even get those shipped into CA?) AND then get blocking kits to permanently limit the capacity to 10 rnds. So many hoops to go thru to own this model unfortunately. @_@

Finding mags in CA shouldn't be a problem for it. You just have to contact shops that do SSE on them. My local store carries them, Parallax Tactical. You can order them online already pinned. I'd also check Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley, I know they recently started doing SSE.

I'm getting my XDM tomorrow. Competition model, Pretty excited. Would dropping in a tungsten rod really be worth it and if so, who carries them, please?

Power river precision and springer precision carry a bunch of stuff for XD and xdm. Just put a PRP trigger in my 5.25 and love it. I also did the grip tape and like it as well.

I really do like the XDm. My friend has an XDm Comp and its awesome.. but personally it's a lot of trouble and cost over standard XD... especially considering how cheap you can get the XD right now. I'd just go for the XD because the XDm doesn't offer 10 round mags (you won't have to go through the hassles of blocking all the mags). Blocking mags make them less reliable because it takes them out of factory specs. You'll have to test them rigorously (moreso than normal) before you can mark them as dependable. Also, one of the biggest draws of the XDm is the extra capacity which you won't really take advantage of in CA.

XDm possibly has better ergonomics to the grip than the original XD. The "match barrel" is kind of ridiculous, but the trigger is better than the original.

I would say that the price isn't worth it unless you REALLY like the feel of the XDm over the XD.

Now if you are talking about the XDm 5.25, I think the difference is worth it because the gun also has adjustable sights over the XD Tactical's ridiculous windage-adjustable-only sights (which usually cannot be adjusted without a hydraulic press).
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Having owned an XDM in the past, I'd cast a vote for the XDM, which is a soft shooting, ergonomically sound pistol. I had the Competition model, and had it transferred and converted at EBR Works.

I had the PRP trigger, in addition to all of their upgrades, and had it to do over, I would have went with Springer Precision. Far beyond fantastic customer services at PRP, though.

I went back and forth with those two and settled with the PRP simply because it came with a new trigger to take out the over travel. I'd love to shoot one with the springer trigger to compare.

I did get a mount for the deltapoint I'll be installing next week from springer.
