    1911 9mm Recommendations?

I want a 1911 in 9mm. Could either be commander size or full size. Also want a rail and I dont know if anything out there could satisfy that without breaking the bank? I used to have an STI Ranger II and that was really nice. Just no rail.
I'd rather be at the range!

There's not much out there by way of 9mm M1911s, and especially not with rails. Probably your best option would be a Springfield Loaded M1911 in 9mm (they make them with either lo-mount ramp, or adjustable sights), and have a gunsmith drill and tap the dust cover for a Dawson rail.

STI Duty One (+sse) or SA/Kimber with tap in a rail, it's comparable in price.
Unless you go RIA SSE with tap in a rail, that would be cheapest, I think.

I would go Duty One for the flat top, checkered front strap, and bull barrel...it's just personal preference.

Hi Power. Just my opinion, but I think the HP points and shoots better than the 1911 and is the better choice if you like the form factor and ergonomics of the 1911, but want one in 9mm.

I think NightHawk Customs offers all of their 1911 variants in 9mm.

STI Duty One is their only 1911 model with a rail, but it's not a standard cut rail. Meaning, the slots on the side aren't cut at an angle like most other picatinny rails, so some people had problems mounting their X300 lights. With a TLR light, they were able to mount it but they had to crank down on the screw so it would stay on tight.

There are some discussions about this on the 1911forums, but here are some up close pics clearly showing the rail is cut differently on the Duty One.

'Standard' 1913 picatinny rail on a 1911 (see how it's beveled)

STI Duty One rail (see how it's cut flat)

              I love my S70 Colt 9mm.

But - I love my Browning HP more.

Not many options if you have to have a rail.

If the rail is optional I would choose this DW: http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/...pointman-nine/

                Or a SA loaded.

SA 9mm but you'll need to clean up the trigger and get rid of the ILS.

I have an RIA 1911-9mm in commander length (second owner). No rail on mine. I paid $300, it had extraction problems and went back to RIA twice. They were great to deal with. I'm still getting to know the pistols. It's not the most accurate nine I own (when shot from a rest), but it comes up on target faster and I hit better with it when shooting fast at reactive targets.
