    Glock Questions

Hey guys, got a couple of questions for you Glock experts in regards to Glock 19.

    1. Are Gen 2 slides compatible with Gen 3 frames?

    2. Are Gen 2 slides compatible with Gen 3 barrels?

    3. In regards to serial numbers, what constitutes "the gun"? Example being Glock barrels, slides, and frames all have matching numbers. If you have all different numbers, which part is considered the gun's serial? I'm assuming the frame.

The reason I am asking this, is because I want to use a Gen 3 frame with a Gen 2 slide for CCW, and would want to know what number would you put down.

Not sure if the slides are compatible, but I'd bet they are. The frame is considered the gun when it comes to Glocks.

      1. Yes
      2. Yes.
      3. The plastic frame, the metal number plate is on the underside of the dust cover.

I don't think so, because the Timberwolf frames are compatible with Gen 3 pistols and not Gen 2. Someone chime in if I'm wrong, but I don't think Gen 2 slides/frames are compatible with Gen 3 frames/slides.

        2. Are Gen 2 slides compatible with Gen 3 barrels?
I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.

        3. In regards to serial numbers, what constitutes "the gun"?
XDRoX is correct. The frame is the registered part.

Gen 2's and Gen 3's interchange barrels and slides within the same group,ie, G17, but not G19 to G17. The frame is the registered part. I have a couple of G17's with replacement slides and barrels, none of the numbers match.

was thinking of trading my G19 Gen3 upper with my cousin's G19 Gen2 because I like the parked finish of the Gen2 vs. the glossy slippery finish of the Gen 3

Shoot them before and after to check the tolerances, why don't you just leave it as is and shoot it? The Glossy finish holds up real well overall.
My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.

Or you could send it to Glock to get refinished. They are back to using the dull finishes again, aren't they?

I have an early Gen3 and it has the shiny finish. I have a new Gen3 and it has the dull finish.

I have shot it quite a bit, however I have some pretty sweaty hands. After a few mags my hands start to drip and the slippery slide finish really makes it hard to grab onto it. I didn't have this problem while practicing on my cousin's old parked Gen 2

I can take some pictures of both my guns if you want to see the difference if you think it will help.

Actually I prefer the shiny finish. Less tactical, but hard as diamond IME. I can't scratch it.

                      Update: it works so far

Swapped the whole upper with a Gen 2 upper (slide/barrel/springs) onto my Gen3.

Fired 200 rounds of Tula, 20 rounds of PDX1.

                      Works as expected, no failures.

And strangely.....where I would normally get a couple of brass to face....i got no brass to face at all.

                      Thanks for replies.

The Gen 2 upper has a 90 degree extractor.

                          is that good or bad?

or does that just explain why i never got the usual 1-2 BTF per 100 that i normally get?

Good because the lci extractors are the ones that suck
