Well played. Well played indeed. Nice play on the HK catalog cover shot with the mags. Awesome inside joke. Yeah, I'm an HK guy too....

    I don't think it's nice,...you laughing.
You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I think a rail would look better on a P7M13 longslide

They're okay until the slide release wears out, Then a failure drill becomes tap. rack, and reassemble as opposed to tap, rack, bang. The SoCal PD that had them, then changed out to Glock 21's after the above became common ocurrance. The P7's had been issue for twelve years at that point.

I can only talk about the P7 M13.

You've read all the tech and engineering stuff. As to shooting it. It's the step before self aiming pistols. It is actually hard to be off target.

Just go shoot one and it will all be clear to you.

my dad has a p7m8 and i'll have to admit, the first time i saw it, i had my doubts. soon as i shot it though, it opened up a magical world to me. i've never shot a 9mm of any type well, and this was an absolute breath of fresh air. with glocks, sigs and various others, i was lucky to hit the ground, but with the p7, it seemed to know what i wanted to shoot at and just make it happen. reloads happen without a second thought, the triggers superb, i just can't think of a bad thing about this pistol aside from the looks being a bit off-putting. once you hold it you can't remember what it looks like, it's all feel from there on out. one of these days i hope to be able to afford one, may have to sell my car but i don't think it's worth enough at this point....great pistols though. anyone even compares it to a glock shouldn't be allowed to own guns, especially one like this.

Hi Bruce. I'm curious. Are you referring to the slide take down button on the upper left side of the frame? I don't see how if that were worn it would allow the pistol to come apart. Depressing it allows you to lift the rear of the slide up and off the frame. I can't see how it being worn or even missing, the slide could come up and off the gun (similar to a walther ppk) unless you wanted it to come off. I ask because I have been very into these guns for many many years and shoot them regularly.

The only parts that I have evidence of breaking on the P7 are the firing pin bushing, and an occasion draw bar/sear bar. I had a FP bushing break once, yet the gun still functioned 100% I didn't know it was broken until I stripped it to clean it. Anyway, I only ask as a student of the P7. I'd be curious to know which socal PD agency it was as well. Some bigger US agencies I'm aware of that issued the P7 were US parks police, NJ state police and Dept of Energy.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Not doubting your post, just would like to read up more on it for my own education.
                  Thanks

Hey Random, yes I have with no problems. Various bullet weights in standard P as well. No problems. I don't shoot +p regularly though as I don't need the added expense and wear for paper or steel. For my own education, what was the failure you witnessed? FTE, stovepipe, FTF, catastrophic failure? Thanks much.

My dad gave me his HK p7m8 right after I purchased my first handgun (sig p226). I thought it was one ugly looking gun and didn't think it would be any fun to shoot. Boy was I wrong, it was one nice gun to shoot. To think he got that gun NIB in the 80's, even trade for about $200-$250 in auto repairs.

I would love to have a P7 if I can get one for under $500. Over that...not so much.

They're great guns, although in the modern age, the explanation about why the over-heating is a non-issue is weak. If you are going to carry it, you need to train with it. If you train with it, you're going to shoot it. The thought of frying your hand while running 1,000 rounds across two days of training is quite the negative.

My other issue with the P7 is purely aesthetic. It's like that totally cute petite girl you see on the other side of the counter, but then see her huge *** when she steps out. Nothing wrong with a substantial, healthy butt, but it just looks funky when she's a size 2 from the waist up. That sums up the P7's looks for me.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.
