Hey guys, got to see a buddy's Steyr M9A1 recently. it felt like a solid pistol, and the trigger was nice. Found some mix reviews. but the good reviews were outstanding reviews. So I thought I'd air it out for my fellow Calgunners and see what you gentlemen think about the pistol. Check Out that serial number too in the pix too what generation is it. Its lower than the ones listed on Steyr's recall list and they say the newest ones have better triggs and reset. This one does also but is it an older generation?

    Thanks

I want a Steyr M9-A1, but they're off roster now and I'm too lazy to try to hunt one down for PTP.

      I like the design.

I've already got an HD pistol. Any other pistols I get beyond that are just for fun...

These Steyrs are nice; short, hard, solid trigger, sights like you have never used before and a high, comfortable grip. Mine eats all sorts of ammo including underpowered reloads. The LCI is interesting and the keyed safety fairly useless, to my mind. It looks pretty intimidating for something that is fairly compact.

I like mine very much. Mine is of the last importation variety. The new ones as slightly different in the trigger hence why they were knocked off the roster. The sights are very interesting once you are used to them its quite easy to use. They have a very nice grip feel and shoot very well. I like it better than a Glock. Size wise the M9-A1 is more similar in size to a G19.

I wouldn't mind one in 40 and the S9-A1. Maybe one day

I have the 40 and it's a great gun. Fantastic ergonomics and shoots like a 9mm - I'm sure the 9mm feels even softer.

The only downside is that there are limited aftermarket options, eg holsters. The trigger break is crisp but the reset is vague compared to a Glock.

I have an M9-A1, great ergonomics, low recoil and the awesome trapezoid sights. There have been some issues with them relating to failures to extract (stove pipes), a recall and follower issues with magazines. A S/N search and a email to Jeff at Steyr (jreece@steyrarms.com) will get you squared away. Their customer service is top notch. The gun is also known to be picky of what it likes to be fed. Check out steyrclub.com, there is a wealth of information on them.
