an extra letter on the box.

    high velocity, more energy.
unfortunately, it also means more recoil and possibly more muzzle flash, depending on your barrel length. Great for hunting, or longer range shooting. not so good for home defense unless your intention is to shoot through walls.

+p and +p+ also tends to have less penetration compared to a regular pressure load for the same weight and bullet design.

+p is a SAAMI specification for some ammunition loaded to higher then standard pressures.

+p+ is a marketing gimmick to get you to buy a higher pressure round and depends on what the manufacturer specified.

lots of defense ammo for 45. google it and see what shoots best out of your gun. I use hornady critical defense. trying out Remington golden sabers right now. really like those too.

For heavy-for-caliber rounds (9mm/147, .45ACP/230) in Tactical rounds like the HST, the 50 fps muzzle velocity advantage of the +P variety will negate the velocity drop of compact sized Bbls. A 3.5" 9mm will perform like a 4.5" 9mm. A 4" .45 ACP will perform like a 5" .45 ACP.

That said, I like the std. 9mm/147 and the .45 ACP/230 +P in compact size Bbls.

The 9mm/147 is already pretty hot, as is the std. .40/180, and they are both designed around the 4" Bbl.

The std. .45ACP is a fairly low-pressure round to start w/ and is designed around the 5" Bbl. So the .45 ACP +P is essentially a uprated 4" Bbl. .45 ACP round.
