    Need Help! New to Cali

Hey there names Jacob and I've got a question I'm hopping y'all can help me with! So I turn 21 this November and my folks are coming to visit from Texas, they are giving me a S&W M&P .40 they bought earlier this year as a gift. What do I need to do to own this firearm in California?

Have them bring it with them, find a local gunshop for legal transfer. Make sure it has no magazines over 10 rounds before attempting transfer. It is against the law for them to give you any magazine over 10 rounds.

Appreciate it! Any idea on fees and where i could pick up 10 rd magazines for it? I know it has 15 rd mags i'll need to let them know to keep.

Can't it just be a intrafamily transfer? Might want to check the wiki on that one.

yes it should be just the family transfer (after changing to 10 rnd mags)
          here's the info

The above info is wrong. My local FFL said it could be done. Further research shows this can only be used when BOTH parties reside in CA.

I don't think interstate transfers work that way. Interstate requires ffl, from what I've read...

You can also break the mags into parts kits or permanent block them to 10 rounds

Since, his parents are residents of another state, just filling out the form and not using a CA FFL dealer would violate Federal laws.
There is no gift exemption to the Federal laws and sending in the form would just document that they committed multiple Federal felonies.

Would this be cheaper than buying 10 rd mags? How do you go about doing this?

Advice? Move back to Texas. My friends in free states are stunned by the lunacy we are subjected to here.
