I am taking trip soon and with be taking 2 handguns with me. I know that I need apropriate case. My question is do you put case in your luggage or just check case on its own? thanks

You could just check the case by itself...but doing so would not be very smart. I always put the pistol case inside a duffel bag with my dirty undies, socks, and boots (TSA lock goes on the duffel zipper).

You must declare that there are firearms inside. I check it separate. It goes directly to TSA and they check it while you wait. Hard case locked container. And ammo has to be in original packaging.

You have to say "I have a firearm to check in", to the airline employee, surrounded by your fellow passengers at the counter. Usually gets a hush. The airline employee will either ask you if it is unloaded, or ask you to show them that it is, and then hand you a red card:



Which you fill out, sign, and then ignore because if they want your key for further inspection behind the big wall they will ask for it, in violation of item 3. If push comes to shove ask for a sworn LEO to carry your key to the back so that they can further inspect your gun.

YOUR lock goes on your gun case, a TSA lock on the luggage that contains it.

I also put a cable lock around the internal sliding handle frame on my roller bag and then loop the cable lock thru the handle on the pistol case so the case cannot be seperated from the larger suit case.

Not true. You must "securely pack any ammunition in fiber, wood, or metal boxes or other packaging that is specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition."

I try to fit it into my suitcase if possible. Keeps the extra baggage fees down, and people see Pelican cases on the conveyor belts and think, "Hmmm...I wonder what's inside?"

I always place the case with the handguns inside my suitcase.

The advantage is you get to go first thru the X ray machine, ahead of everyone else. I always long shank lock the gun in the slide lock position also. If someone steals it, they have to use a cut off wheel to get that lock off.

In a case in my suitcase unless I'm flying with my AR's, then I'll put them with the rifles in the rifle case.

I put the locked Pelican handgun case inside my main luggage duffel.

I advise bringing a spare lock for the hardcase, it's a hassle saver if the tsa agent is difficult.

I place it inside my duffle with two TSA locks securing it. Sometimes they ask you to open it and sometimes they don't, just depends on the airline and the airport. The card you agin has a spot for your phone number, and they'll attempt to contact you if there's an issue.
