My front sight fell off LOL.

So a long story short, I had ammo bros install a front night sight on my m&p 9 a few months back and finally got some free time to go shooting. 20 mins into the range time I could not figure out why I kept shooting more and more to the right! Man I was perplexed! I decided to blame the ammo or I was just rusty.

Low and behold as I placed the gun down the front sight fell right off! LOL. I was like say what! So I put it back on and I can slide it back on with my fingers. Sigh. Get home and clean it and take a closer look and it seems the bright person at ammo bros sanded or something similar the sight a tiny bit to much finish cleaning up and applied a tiny amount of red lock tight on it and centered it. The sight was still tight enough to use lock tight rather then staking it. So hopefully it will never move again!

I just had a drr moment and never thought to check the front sight. So as a friendly reminder check the sights make sure they are tight. Hahah I laughed at myself today and it was a great day at the range!

Bummer man! This makes me want to buy that universal sight installer... I've been holding off, as I only have a few pistols and cant justify the cost right now... Hopefully the red lock tight works for you, I personally would have sent it back...

It should hold firing a mag or two. Wait when it's a hot sunny day and do some rapid firing to get that gun hot enough to cook off the red loctite and you'll be wishing you staked that front sight.

I had Bret @ Cerritos install Trijicon on my M&P .45 and it's solid.

with a sight pusher, I shouldn't need to be sanded down (even with brass punch, you shouldn't need to sand it down)... if the sight didn't fit (too big or small), maybe it's a sight problem?

Well see how the lock tight works out. I had it installed at the Ontario ammo bros. it's a ameriglo sight set. I talked to them yesterday, but I had them installed months ago (4-5 or so) and no longer had the receipt. They only charged me 10 bucks. I've had no issues with red lock tight on my AR's flash hiders so far and got them very very hot, on a very hot day.

At this point I won't be taking it back to ammo bros. if they can screw up something so easy as a front sight god only knows how much worse they can make it.

I have never had this happen before using lock tight. Once I installed the sight and lightly tapped it into place the lock tight set almost instantly! I'm just still laughing at myself for not checking it first as my groups kept going more right every shot lol.

They're usually oversized so you have to do a bit of hand fitting. Sounds like the guy at ammobros took a little too much material off the sight. If it was staying without the red locktite, and slowly coming loose, then I'm betting the locktite will hold it. If you don't fit the sight to the dovetail, you can damage the slide or sight by applying too much force, it should be an interference fit, and require a little bit of pressure to install.

The lock tight set and I can not move t at all. Ill shoot it maybe later this week or weekend. Will follow up.

Green loctite works where red doesn't. Thats what's holding my 10/22 front sight in after I decided to be lazy and bang it out on a coffee table with a screwdriver rather than go to the garage.

After it falls out again put your slide in a padded vise and using a sharp pointed punch create a patch of burrs by striking inside center of the slide notch at a fairly steep angle. Think of what a wood rasp looks like. This will have the effect of making the notch tighter. Carefully drive the sight back in until it is centered. If the sight still moves make the burrs bigger. Problem fixed.
