M&P 40/9 Conversion

The last time I was at the range I rented an M&P 9 and was thoroughly impressed. Follow up shots were easy and the recoil was very light. Being a range gun, the trigger was stock but probably very broken in and not an issue for me.

My question is have any of you dealt with the .40 to 9mm conversion. I have seen people using the stock 9mm barrel and mags without issue.

Please only responses form those who own or have dealt with this weapon. I am not interested in a Glock 22.

My CZ 75 is a great range gun, but I would prefer to have a HD gun with a rail that I can shoot .40 for the house but cheaper 9mm at the range also.

Or just keep it at 40. I reload my handgun ammo so the cost is virtually the same as 9mm. Even if I didn't reload I'd probably still leave it at 40 and just use another gun for 9mm. The cost difference isn't that big, you should train with 40.

I will train with .40 if I use it for HD. Hopefully this will stop the flood of comments saying the same thing.

I like having options, and having 3 calibers(.40, .357SIG, 9mm) is an awesome option.

I have the full size and compact M&P 40's. I also have the stock 9mm barrels and mags for each. Works perfectly and the barrels are half the price of the so called "conversion barrels". I have hundreds of rounds through my 9mm barrels with no FTFs, FTEs, and I save about 5 dollars per 100 rounds of Wal Mart Federal bulk packs. 100 of 40 is ~ $25, 100 of 9mm ~ $20

I thought about doing the same thing to my M&P 40 but decided to just get another one in 9mm instead. Its up to you as to which way you want to go about doing this.

I use freedom munition reloads and it saves me about $65/1k. Other then a slight recoil difference I see no reason not to use 9mm for target practice and .40 JHP (your carry/SD rounds) for the last little bit of range time.

My first range trip with my M&P 40c I put 200 rounds of 40 and 100 rds of 9mm Federal FMJ BP and had zero problems. I'm planning on buying ammo from Freedom Munitions when I get back to the states.

No, The breechface on the 9mm slide is not big enough for a 40 barrel. You can buy a 40 slide and barrel and it will work. I might would buy your slide if you wanted to sell it. I want to get a RMR and suppressor sights installed on one of mine.
