I don't want to argue this issue of LEOs lawyers and civilians. But what I was hoping for was theory from the lawyers and actual practice from the LEOs.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR, MOSTLY THE HARD WAY

Read that sentence aloud and think about it.

In my experience LEO's (at least the ones I personally know) are not all that well versed in California gun laws. Since they are exempt from a number of the more "confusing" aspects of these laws and have not done the reading on the subject that we have...

I would trust most of the peoples opinion on this board (at least the ones who post regularly) over a random LEO off the street any day of the week.

Not something to hope for. Actually, unless an attorney specialized in Gun Law you won't get any good advice.

While I respect Law Enforcement people, in practice they have a low understanding of Gun Law as well. Probaby too much to know.

My experience is the two people never to take Gun Law advice from:

          1. Law Enforcement

          2. Gunstore Employee's

          JMO and experience.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

A lawyer friend of mine, and member here, called me today to ask me about federal and state gun laws. So, sometimes professionals know enough to ask lowly civilians instead of starting their research from scratch.

BTW, I have purchased firearms from LEOs and never received any type of paperwork. I have bought firearms at garage sales, been given firearms by my father and manufactured firearms. None of these legal firearms have any paperwork to save or carry with me. The person who told you that paperwork needed to be kept is a moron.
