I just received my Wheeler Trigger Pull Scale today and was curious to see how my various arms fare. Here are the results after finding a good consistent method of pulling the scale. This took a few minutes as I found I had to hold down the firearms so it would not move, and then find the angle where my finger would pull on the trigger. I also tried to ensure the trigger rested center of the steel rod for the sake of consistency.
While Wheeler recommends 3 pulls for an average, I went 5 and on my AR, 10.
Here are my results:
Beretta 92FS (purchased 1992):
5.5 lbs, 5.5, 5.5, 5.5, 5.5 - Avg: 5.5 (Damn, consistent!)
Springfield 1911 Loaded ( purchased 2010 ):
4.25, 4.00, 4.25, 4.13, 4.25 - Avg. 4.18
S&W 627+PC (purchased 9/2012):
3.88, 3.88, 3.94, 3.75, 3.69 - Avg. 3.83
S&W M&P 15-22 (purchased 2010):
5.38, 5.50, 5.69, 5.31, 5.56 - Avg. 5.49
Colt LE6920 (purchased 03/2011):
6.00, 7.31, 6.44, 6.31, 7.32, 6.88, 7.50, 8.00, 7.88, 6.63, 8.00 - Avg.: 7.60 Note: at one time I had a pull past 8 lbs.! Very inconsistent trigger pull. I actually did more than 10; had one more a 8lbs. crazy.
Squires-Bingham .22LR (inherited, but was originally purchased in the 1970's at either Gemco or K-Mart):
5.06, 4.81, 5.00, 5.00, 4.88 - Avg.: 4.95
Thompson Contender (purchased 1982):
3.69, 3.63, 3.81, 3.63, 3.69 - Avg.: 3.69 By far the lightest trigger of the bunch.
Anyway, it's clear that for the Colt, it's time to take care of this; I understand it's a 2 stage pull; the results were the final pull upon the sears disengagement. But it does explain some of my fliers at odd times. I'm going to purchase a Gissele SSA and re-test.
