FDE Glocks... difference between Gen 3 & Gen 4?

I'm just curious to know why the Gen 3 FDE Glocks are more expensive than the Gen 4 FDE Glocks, as both are not on the CA roster anyways.

I see (and have always seen) Gen 3 FDE Glocks, like a G19 or G17, selling for $750 -$850 in the Classifieds, and that's for a USED gun.

I see places that are selling the Gen 4 FDE Glocks, like a G19 or G17, for $599 + TAX & DROS with the SSE included, so that comes out to around $680 OTD for a NEW gun.... a good $75-$150 lower than a used Gen 3.

Am I missing something here? Or is that just the CA residents & Calguns doing what they do best? (thinking their guns are worth that much, or that they paid too much and want to break even).

Sure you aren't confusing the limited production run of FDE Gen3 and Gen4 to the discontinued Gen3 OD's?
Don't let the name fool you...

      You mean the OD Glocks?

These "value" threads pop up from time to time. If the price is too high for you, move on. If everyone moves on, the price will invariably come down.

List enough items in the Classifieds, and you'll run into another favorite thread topic: Low-ballers.

List an item for what most would consider a "good" price, and watch it sell quickly. Then be prepared for all the "I'll give you $25 more, cash in hand" solicitations, after you've already listed it as SPF. But you're a good guy, you honor the first response and sell it for your original "good" listing price. Two weeks later, your item gets re-listed and sold for $100 more.

What you have to remember is, for whatever reason, not everyone has similar access to certain types of guns. Some people are willing to pay a premium to offset that lack of availability.

ETA: I have an OD G17, btw. Bought it back when they were still in production and no one wanted them. Turners had them on some type of clearance sale, so I bought one. Now that it's discontinued (limited supply), everyone wants one (high demand). Hence the prices.

I think its that people think FDE glocks are like the OD glocks which will command the extra premium. But unlike the OD glocks the FDE glocks can be found quite easy on the open market right now.

If you look right now on the open market, Gen3's are priced less then Gen 4's which is what it should be.

Right now, new FDE Gen 3 Glocks are cheaper than new FDE Gen 4 Glocks (all from Lipsey's who has an exclusive on the color).

Aftermarket Glocks always have a bunch of people trying to gouge due to scarcity - percieved or real.

Pay attention to the color. OD Green Glocks demand a premium since they are no longer made. IIRC they were only made in Gen 3. And the current "FDE" color is really sort of a cross between FDE and OD Green. So sometimes in photos the OD can look FDE.

EBR had some in stock I believe .... They were listing it in the commercial section.

Grabagun online might have some in stock also.

Fortunately, Lipsey's just received a new run of FDE a week ago and there was a mad scramble to fill backorders with them. They were out of them for a couple months, so they got snatched up fast when they finally came in. But they're floating around out there. You just have to do some legwork.

                      Bud's has a G17 Gen 3 FDE and a G19 Gen 3 FDE. They also have a G22 Gen 3 FDE.

Scottsdale Gun Club has a G19 Gen 3 FDE.

They're out there, you just have to look around. But good luck on finding a Gen 4. Those seemed to have gotten snatched up quick in this last shipment.

Not sure if you're from NorCal or not, but SBR had FDE Glocks last Thursday (when I DROSd my gen 4 FDE G19). They still had 8 gen 3 G19's and I'm not sure how many gen 4's.

I would give 'em a call if anyone is interested.

What?!?!? They've been telling me for the last 2 months they don't buy from Lipsey's. I was even in there 2 weeks ago asking for Lipsey's FDE Glocks and they told me once again - no they don't buy from Lipsey's and they don't carry FDE Glocks. They were getting sick of me asking.

I was at my LGS, Island View Enterprise, yesterday and they had GEN4 FDE G21, G22, and a couple other models in stock. Almost put down on one too
