Help sending my M&P back for repairs

First let me say I LOVE my M&P's... I have three and will be purchasing a fourth very soon. I have never had a single issue with any of them untill now.

I have a Vtac in 9mm and after a recent range trip I noticed something odd with the front sight. Well it turns out the night sight portion broke and no longer glows. I've never sent a firearm back to the factory for work, but I think I can figure that out.

My problem is I have an Apex FSS and trigger on it... does anyone know if I am going to have to uninstall it and put all the factory parts back on if I ship it back? Is their any chance I can ship just the slide back and avoid all this? Thanks

Why dont you just call the factory/service department and ask them?

Do you even need to send them your frame? Seems like you should just be able to send them the slide. It'll be much easier to ship too since the slide isn't itself a firearm.

You should not need to put the OEM parts back in the gun, especially since S&W would not be working on the trigger, sear, etc.

I'm pretty sure an FFL could help. Just a simple form, a few bucks, and a small wait...then BAM! You got yourself a GLOCK!!


I believe all you need to send SW is the slide, which will make things MUCH easier for you.

I say just send them the slide in a padded case. That way you don't have to pay $60-$100 on next-day shipping, and you can use USPS. Just be sure to write your name and telephone number at the very least on the case.

S&W pays shipping both ways, even if you have to send the frame in. Which he probably won't need to do.

Call S&W. You usually need an authorization number anyways.

If you are in or near Orange County you could take it to Bolsa Gunsmithing. They are authorized to do S&W warranty repair. Didn't cost me anything for a repair except 6 weeks without the gun.

i don't have night sights, but my 45, and 45c, both, had the white dot disappear.

Sent my slide back for rust issues. Absolutely no problems and they cover shipping. One of the best for customer services I've ever had to work with.
