    1911 barrel treatment

I have a RIA 1911. There is nothing wrong with the barrel other than it just looks junky. Any suggestions on how to clean it up and bring some shine to it?

Shoot it often, you will not care eventually.

If the inside diameter is rough, some shooting should improve its appearance. If the outside that's rough and ugly, some careful buffing with a buffing wheel should yield some improvement. Just be careful not to take out too much metal esp. in the front where the bushing interphase AND the lugs.

There is only so much you can do to improve the looks of those cheaper brands. They are more about function than aesthetics.

      Good luck.

Buff it, polish it, jewel it (http://www.3me.us/jewelling.htm). Get an aftermarket treatment done (NP3, etc).

Who cares how it looks. If it shoots fine then just shoot it.

It's an RIA barrel. Not worth any aftermarket treatments.

Take the barrel out, clean it off. put it in a vise and get some fine emory cloth or 600 wet/dry sandpaper and "shoe shine" it. It will shine like it was done with a buffing wheel.

If the barrel is blue or park now, when you're done the gun should cycle smoother.
