Muzzle crown question (PICS)

Quick question, which part of the picture below is considered the actual muzzle crown?

Reason I ask is I noticed there are 2 scratches on the area marked A on my Ed Brown SF.

I'm assuming that won't affect accuracy, since from what I understand the recessed area marked B is the actual crown.

Is this a correct understanding?

Here is the actual crown. It looks like the EB barrel doesn't have as noticeable a "chamfer".

A is the face, B is the crown, in this case, a simple chamfer.

Anytime someone customizes the barrel, like a 11 degree target crown, it's the inside.

Here is the my actual muzzle crown. I have no idea what happened, I did drop the gun from 2 feet onto hardwood but there's no way it could do this to it.

Your understanding is perfect.

If the scratches bug you, a decent gunsmith can square the front of the barrel and recrown it...takes 5 minutes or so, assuming he has the tools.

Dont worry that will not harm the accuracy. 'B' is the crown which WILL affect the accuracy, but in your case it looks fine. No worries, just enjoy the gun.

That won't have ANY effect on accuracy. Purely cosmetic. Now quit looking and go shooting.

I learned from several places online that you can take a q-tip and swipe the cotton tip against the edges of the inner barrel. If the scratches on the edge of the barrel pick up some of the cotton fibers then that is usually indicative of crown damage.

It's a good indication when it comes to scratches because of the sharp edges.

Not all crown damage will have such a sharp edge.

I'd say OP should price it out at various gunsmiths (local is probably better so as to avoid shipping costs).

The issue is pretty much entirely cosmetic at the super low speeds and pressures that a .45acp operates at. If you were running a higher pressure cartridge, then a small scratch might have an effect.
