    S&W lock removal

I was wondering what Calguns thought about removing the internal locks on S&W revolvers?

The revolver in question is a 642 that will be used for CCW purposes

Heres a video on the process for those that are not familiar with it

    I guess the question I have is....Why?

Has anyone documented the locks failing and accidentally locking up the gun?

Does the lock interfere with the trigger pull or other functions of the firearm?

Would you assume liability should you sell the gun without he safety??
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I have the internal lock on my 617. Never really thought of removing it because I cant even feel it when shooting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as a CCW holder aren't you forbidden from modifying the gun you carry in any way (night sights being the one exception to the rule)? I know some counties spell this out explicitly, but maybe not all do?

And even so, if you ever did have to use the gun for its intended purpose, why give the criminal/civil lawyers any extra nugget to hang their hats on at all? Can't ya just hear it? "This vigilantly even disabled the safeties built into the gun! ..."

In other words, I wouldn't if I were you.

My cousin's best friend's wife's coworker's husband had this happen when he was defending himself against 3 bad guys at night. Lock failed and revolver locked up and was just a paper weight at that point. Ended up going to the hospital with stab wounds. S&W failed to take responsibility like the crappy pro-Clinton company it is.

Also, same guy's brother had that happen to him at the range. Got laughed at by all his range buddies and ended up jumping off of a bridge due to the embarrassment it caused.

          True story.

I have deleted the lock from my carry 642 as there is documented evidence of lock failure out there. It's not very difficult. As to why, Murphy's Law says that when you need your defensive pistol most, that piece of Clinton suckupism (like the new word?) from S&W will cause it to fail. It's extraneous to the safe operation of the pistol and is not needed.

Since there is a version sold by S&W without the lock, I'd call it a non-issue unless you hold a CCW under whose provisions you cannot alter your carry pistol.

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I carry my 442 with the key in it. It only takes an extra second to turn the key after drawing down on a bad guy.
3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

The locks bug me as well. If I were to use one for carry or HD, I would also remove the lock. I own one with a lock and haven't a taken it off yet, but I only use it for range fun.

Bad advice again on the web. If you watch the lock part being removed notice the tit ,that is what locks, Grind the tit off flush and reassemble all the parts and the gun will not lock but all the lock pieces are in place and the gun will look untampered with and there will be no hole where the lock was.

Nothing on my CCW says I can't tamper with the weapon.

The lock locks the gun so it will not fire. Why would you *** u + me liability?

It is not a safety. S@W makes the same guns without the lock.
