Front sight paint

I have got a S&W 642 that is currently in jail

Heres a picture from the sellers ad


I want some definition on that front sight
Im thinking some Testors model paint would work well.

Any suggestions?

Acrylic paint from walmart works well. Costs about 2-4 bucks depending on type and color and size. I bought it in neon orange, painted the "front sight" on my LCP and the front sight ramp on my GF's Rossi 461. I tried a few different colors and neon orange seemed to be the easiest to spot followed by neon green. Easy enough to do, very forgiving, apply in light coats with a toothpick. Once you get it right you can finish it off two coats of clear nail polish to protect it. Have cleaned both guns several times since doing that and it has held up.

Phosphorescent paint.

Looks white under the light (on a black sight, it's very easy to see). When it's dark, any ambient light will make it glow. Likewise, you can let it 'charge' under a light and then use it in the dark and it'll glow. Poor man's night sight.


Since the J-frame you're getting is silver, you're better off with a bright orange or red paint color.

Years ago we used to use nail polish.

Whatever high vis paint or nail polish ya might have on hand will work for now.
I used the ole ladies pink polish :<)

Yeah I just redid my front with white and left the rear orange. It looks good but I'll have to hit the range to verify. Last time the light wasn't great and I shot about a 12" group with the all orange. Lime green should stick out nicely, I think that's the reason a lot of people are switching to green lasers and dot sights.

used to use nail polish. now just call up dawson and get the fiber optic front. green seems to be the color my eyes like the most.
