My SA 1911 recently went from a 38 super to a 9mm. I started the project when I got a used SA 1911 mil spec in 38 super from a gun store. After some research I bought a Stormlake 9mm barrel, a barrel bushing and barrel links. Little did I know after the parts came, the barrel bushing and the barrel are not exactly drop in parts... I wasn't going to play gunsmith and potentially ruin the gun, the parts and myself, so I went looking for a gunsmith in the Sacramento area.
Luckily I found a calgunner, 1911whore, to help me fit the 9mm barrel and the barrel bushing to the gun. When I took the gun and the parts in, he explained to me in details of the inner workings with a 1911, the process of how he is going to fit the barrel, and recommended a reliability job as well. He is very knowledge about 1911 (as it should for a competent gunsmith) and the turnaround time is only 3 days!!! I dropped it off on Monday afternoon and by Thursday, he was done test firing the day before and ready to be picked up. Definitely recommend 1911whore as a gunsmith to anyone who wants to have work done to their pistol in the Sacramento region.
I put about 90 rds of 9mm last weekend and the gun ran flawlessly. Although I have some standard pressure 147 grains that the spend casing didn't eject as far as the 115 grains, I let 1911whore knows and he explained to me that it is normal for slow 147 grains to do that since the gun is designed for a fast 38 super. The ejection pattern is fine for a faster moving 115 grains. I forgot to take a photo of my grouping but it was about 2.5 to 3 inches at 7 yds and a bit higher than the bullseye. The grouping opens up at 15 yds and I can't say it's not my fault
Took some photos of the gun so enjoy:
