Would you buy a display model?

I was at a local Turners and was browsing their Sig Sauers. I came across an XO 1911 model but they didn't have them in stock. The salesperson asked if I'd be interested in the display model. My initial thought was "no." For a $900 gun I'd want something untouched so to speak. Would you buy a display model? Maybe ask for a discount of some sort?

I am going to shoot bullets out of it. if people playing with it is going to damage it, perhaps I should be looking at something else.

Unless you have to have it, I would wait. Ask them if they have any in stock. Or order and wait. Otherwise, inspect it well and check to see when it was test fired. If it looks and checks out fine, ask for a discount and buy.

Living where I do I don't have the luxury of shopping at gun stores with unlimited stock of guns in the back room. I just naturally assume I'm going to get the gun I see in the shelf.
Unless there is visible damage, which I've never seen, I don't see the problem with the display model.

Do people really think that gun stores can afford to have a display model that will never be sold?

I'd buy the floor model for a discount yes. I'd ask for a hefty discount.

If it looked good and they were willing to take some off the price, sure. It should still come with the manufacturers warranty.

As long as the salesman gave me an appropriate discount, then of course!

what exactly is the justification for people saying they would only take the display model for a discount? I honestly don't get it.

What the hell? I didn't even know there were "display" models when it came to guns. You go look at it, fondle it, and if you want it, you buy it. What the hell is this display model crap?

It depends on the gun and the distributer it was bought from, but generally it's around 20% before you pay the salesman, rent and electric bill.

Every time I've bought a new gun from a shop it's been a new one from the back. I've never been asked if I'd be interested in a display model. The gun I was looking at had a few blemishes cosmetically as well. I think for my own curiousity ill go and ask for a discount and report back.

To me, it all maters what the gun is for. Collectors gun, then no display model. A shooter that's going to see 500 rounds on it's first outing, I'll go for a shelf model as long as it still looks new.
