New model blackhawk 357

Well I just acquired my grandfathers blackhawk he bought back in 1975, wanting to know what to look for before shooting, gonna clean it, I don't know anything about wheel guns so any advice how to find check lock up and all that fun stuff,

They are very simple devices. After a good cleaning, I'd start with some 38 specials to see how it feels in your hands before advancing to .357 magnum rounds. Have fun with it.

That revolver is brutally strong. I would not hesitate to shoot any reasonable load through it. Between the grip design which allows the revolver to roll upwards in your hand and the heft of the gun it will be a *****cat to shoot. The grip frame and triggerguard are probably aluminum alloy and the finish on those parts can wear a little faster. Not a big deal, just cosmetic. Get a properly fitting screwdriver to keep the 5 screws on the grip frame section/trigger guard tight. When you take the grips off check to see if the little takedown pin for the hammer spring is still ther. If it is then your grandfather was a careful man. They usually get lost and you need to press a small allen wrench into service.

I like 180 gr. XTP's, A-Frame's, and bonded core soft-point's at ~ 1200-1300 fps.

Great revolvers. Had one that I bought in 1986 and sold in 2009. I estimate putting several thousand full magnum loads through it (slight flame cut on the topstrap) and the thing still shot and looked like new!

Very nice. The Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk revolvers are classics. Rock-solid and fun to shoot.
