    Metal target recommendations?

Can anyone recommend brands and where to buy online metal targets appropriate for 9mm shooting?

    Thanks

    Hi Harley --

We have a vendor on the forums here called AR500 Targets: http://www.ar500-targets.com/

I ordered up a 3-target stand from them about a month ago and have been pretty happy with it. I bent the hangers a little more so the looped/hooked parts close tighter (in the pic below, they are pre-bending), as the first time I went out every now and then a target would swing hard enough that it would slip over the loop and fall. Other than that, 100% great. The steel is definitely armor hard, as there are NO indentations or dents whatsoever from any of the 9mm or .45 hits... all FMJ. We even shot the targets at about 25 yards with a bunch of FMJ .223 ammo (and it was bi-metal jacket Brown Bear stuff) and that makes just the teeniest, tiniest little divot that you can barely feel with a finger.

All bullets disintegrated or flattened completely. There's always a little pile of what look like extra flat quarters right under the targets haha

Eventually I'll order up their dueling tree. Not as nice as Action Targets' tree (at least in appearance from photos), but it's half the cost and they're a CalGuns vendor. Customer service on the phone was great.

This was after the very first shooting session. 9mm and a little .223:

Now I hit them with a little spray paint to make 'em stand out, and I don't put it out to a full 25 or more yards. I started there for safety reasons but, due to the targets swinging on impact and the hardness of the steel, any part of the bullet that's bigger than basically dust just stops dead and lands on the base of this thing. 25 yards is good for slow aiming target practice with a nice DING when you get it right, but moving it in for more rapid fire stuff is quite fun.

    Jeremy

BTW there's also these guys http://www.shootsteel.com/ and there's Action Target, which is the big player in the market: http://www.actiontarget.com/store/du...ree-ar550.html But I say support the CalGuns vendor if they have what you're looking for.

Ar500-targets. Bobcat steel is a vendor too, no?

Had to plug the Calguns vendors but I own the "evil roy" portable target from Action Target. Very easy to setup, fits in the trunk of my sedan easily. Love the 15 degree downward tilt it has that directs splash downwards and no exposed bolts or anything. It's also reactive, it bobbles when you hit it. They have the option of buying ar550 steel, if you want. The target heads come in a few different shapes & sizes. I've dealt with their customer service on a small issue and they went above & beyond for me so if you do go with them, buy with confidence.

Railroad tie plates work great. I've hit them with everything from .22 to .45-110 and they just ring and swing.

Call up local scrap yards or machine shops.. See if they have extra mild to hardened steel you can take off them or pick up for cheap. Luckily I was shopping and at the same time a member on here bought a huge slab and was selling them for decent price

Now I'm trying to find a place that is willing to cut 2 corners off for me for cheap to free (it's a quick simple 10 min cut job) I just don't have the tools to do it my self. And I want a clean cut nothing slop

Bought my stuff from Big John's Iron Works - they are in the central valley and they are supporters of Calguns.
