    S&W 629 question

Thinking about picking one up to add some thump to my arsenal. I asked a fellow calgunner about one he was selling in the classifieds and this is what he (will remain anonymous) said:

"I got this ten years ago, it has no cylinder play, with perfect timing, and excellent trigger. There are only 4 of these type of PERFECT revolvers in every 500 produced by S&W."

What does that mean? Any truth to S&W producing subpar revolvers?

Go find one in a gun shop and check it out for yourself to see if the rest are all sub-par. Sounds to me like he's blowing smoke up your rear end to get you to buy his and not someone else's.

True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

The .44 mag is a safe queen for many owners

The cost of the ammo is not the issue, it is the recoil.

For my last project, I was looking for an earlier model 29 and I used the advanced search function on Gun Broker and I selected the seller being in CA.
( the earlier models are not on the CA approved roster so PPT is the easiest avenue)

I have not had any issue with the quality of S&W guns

As with anything machined, all pistols have acceptable tollerances

Milling heads wear out and the first cut will be slightly different than the last pass when they replace the tool head.

With that said, every gun goes through quality controll checks to verify every part is within spec and the final fit and finish is within spec

The only peoblem I have ever had with my S&W is from shooting cast lead bullets too fast and leading my barrell.

The gun will outlast your grandkids...
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Don't go by what the seller says. Check it out for yourself and if you are satisfied and the price is right buy it.

            I have the 629 in 5"
Perfect barrel length. It was a gift from my dad. Its my favorite revolver gun of my collection. Recoil is totally manageable with houge grips. Its my goto gun for outdoors stuff. Ammo is expensive but I just picked up some dies for it, so I'll be reloading for it soon.

Newer ones are not generally as highly regarded as pre-lock/MIM ones by some people, myself included.

If the seller is serious () he MIGHT be referring to a 629DX model. Don't recall the exact percentage (it was NOT 4 out of 500) but they were a cut above the rest in terms of accuracy.

That's one hell of a quality control from S&W

Don't listen to the seller's BS, check out the gun yourself to verify lock up, timing and all that.
