    First 1911

Well Im getting that itch for my first 1911

Its looking like I will be transferring out of state for school so that opens up more options
I am a college student and as much as I would like a Nighthawk or Ed Brown this isnt quite the right time for that in my life

I have some pretty basic requirements

    Completely 100% US made
    Government length
    .45ACP
    series 70
    under $1K

It seems like the only new option that I am finding is the Ruger SR1911

The Ruger SR1911 really seems to meet my basic requirements quite well

    Are there any other suggestions?

If you can spend a little more, look at the S&W E series.

A Ruger is way better then the Baer anyways lol.

All kidding aside, you are doing good by sticking to your budget and I am a fan of the series 70 firing system. I haven't tried out the Ruger but I am pretty sure you will be happy with it.

            Yes I am well aware of the differences between a $600 1911 and a $2600 1911

At the current moment I would not recommend a Ruger SR1911 to anybody in CA. The scarce demand has driven prices way up to about where a Springfield Loaded series is. The last time I was at OC Armory I saw a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 on consignment for $900 bucks. DW does not use any MIM parts and at $900 is a real bargain.

It was more of a joke because some guy made a thread stating that there isn't much difference between the Ruger SR1911 and a Les Bear. My bad for taking it off topic, it's just the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the Ruger now. Which state are you moving to?

Im thinking most likely the 1911 will be purchased out of state

I have heard that the Springfield Loaded the frames are made by some south american banana republic

Aye, that makes sense, gun idiots
$600 VS $2600, there are differences lol

                  I am looking at Charleston,SC

The Ruger, as you said, seems to fit your requirements exactly, so it's a no brainer.

If it's true what they said about CA prices on it being high, then that's a bonus. Buy it in SC, then when or IF you move back to CA you can sell it for more than you bought it for.

Frames are forged in Brazil by Imbel. Do some searching on this and you'll find that many are happy with their Springfield 1911s built off Imbel forging.

Wtf is South American Banana Republic? Doesn't really seem like a good joke or insult.

I am well aware of that many many owners of Springfields are very happy
Im also aware that many owners of RIAs are extremely happy

Banana republic is usually reserved for central American countries.

Brazil simply isn't. Besides, their economy is supposed to soar really soon, kinda like India.

One college student to another, ill offer two options which fit your needs.

The 1911 on top is a PT1911 I bought for $450 at a local gun store. It works so well it is my current CCW piece, although its outside of your Made in USA requirement so ill cease discussing it.

The 1911 on the bottom is a Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced. Made in New York state, fiber optic front sight, and the trigger is so light and crisp its a dream to shoot. Retail is about $750, so its slightly more than the Ruger-but you probably won't find the SR1911 for less than $700 anyhow, and after handling both weapons I daresay the sights are worth the price difference.

Its a Series 80, but the trigger is so well tuned out of the box you wouldn't know it from shooting the piece. That orange fiber optic jumps out pretty well against the background, which IMO is superior to the Ruger's standard 3 dot system. The rear sight comes out of the box with elevation adjustment, so that's another point in favor of the R1 compared to the Ruger's fixed sights.

As far as fit and finish goes, Remington didn't skimp on that category. The barrel bushing is so tight despite the GI guiderod you'll be using the tool to take it apart-and its accuracy in terms of ease to shoot is exemplary. The targets you see above were shot at a distance of ~50 feet offhand.

If the SR1911 is too difficult to find in your neck of the woods, the R1 is a compelling , Made in America choice!
The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.
-Lao-Tzu, Tau Te Ching. 479 BCE

The 1911 may have been in wars for 100 years, but Masetro Bartolomeo Beretta was arming the world 400 years before John Browning was ever a wet dream.
